Most of the Columbia will close to salmon and steelhead fishing Friday night.  Really a bummer for those of us that enjoy some of those special late season fisheries.

The good news is the MOK is on fire!  After finding out about the impending closure last night I made plans to fish this morning.  Got a late start and hit the water at 10am.  I didn't think the mud would have cleared much from a few days ago but it surprisingly wasn't bad.

A couple minutes into my first pass I had a bite and landed a small coho.  Debated about letting it go but having not caught any coho I could retain so far this season I decided to keep it.  Bled it, tagged it and sent my gear back down.  Two minutes later a second Coho hit.  It gave a better fight and when it surfaced I could tell it was a slightly larger fish.  Got it in the net and kept it.  Really wished I would have let the first one go.

Final stats...
Two Coho.
150 yrds of fishing.
5 minutes total fishing time.
Dirty looks from powerboaters.... many.

If you can, tomorrow might be a good time to burn a vacation day.  I'll see you out there for the unfortunate last day of the season.

Great job!!  That is awesome.

My original plan this week was going to be fishing the mouth of the Deschutes tonight and Friday. I talked myself into going elsewhere because of the high flows.  When I saw the closure, I wish I stuck to my original plan.

I love hearing stories of the kayaks out fishing the powerboats.
Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed about the closure, right when it's picking back up too. I'm heading out from work in about an hour to fish the remaining hours that it is open. Awesome fish, snopro!

It rained last night and the mud came back. Saw less than 5 caught.  Slow considering the number of boats out.  I had a nice one up to the side before it got off.  One other very solid take down that missed the hooks.

Sad to see it close.  I guess this will be the season I spend time learning the inside.   Outside has always been good to me so I never bothered.

You're pissed?  Your ridiculous success downriver is the reason they're closing it early.  Sheesh!

Nice Score Snopro!!!
