Every year when UpNorthTex is in town, I make a point of spending a day or two fishing with him.  Even when the fish aren't biting, Art is a pleasure to fish with.  He's one of those fishing partners with a wealth of stories to pass the time and the occasional insightful observation that sums up a thousand words in one brief soundbite.
While we've found salmon in the past, Buoy 10 had never delivered for Art.  This year was a different story.  Clear skies with light and variable winds greeted our launches and carried us thru mid-day.  The paddle/pedal was easy and the fish were on the bite.
If you ever get the chance to fish with this gentleman, Take It.  He's a quick study and makes the fight look effortless.  To boot, he'll even make you feel good about having been outfished on your home waters.

great pictures of the netting, the two captions that come to mind, because they are what runs through mine at those moments:
"get in the net you shiny bastard"
and also "stay in the boat, stay in the boat, stay in the boat..."   ;D

congrats.

That was actually Thursday of last week.  I had lots of chances but only managed to land a mid-size Coho.  I could have stuck it out for my limit but it was just the 1st of 4 straight days of fishing.

I am so happy to hear that Art finally broke his Buoy 10 cherry. I know he has been trying for a couple of years now. Third times the charm eh ? Or maybe, third year is the charm-- but I'm not sure about that. Regardless---- good job  Tex.

Mark's comments about fishing with upnorthtex are 'spot on'. Art has lived an incredible life. If you ever get a chance to share a campfire with this man--jump on it. And then ask lots of questions and listen hard. Don't talk-- just listen. You can learn so much from this man. He is a HERO.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Those pictures brought a big smile to my face - that first one looks like a good candidate for Picture of the Month to me...

I've spoken to Art only briefly, but I've seen him in action at ORC a couple of times, and followed his efforts on this site, and I agree that he has earned a ton of respect, and is an inspiration to all of the rest of us.

Congratulations on getting a B10 fish Art! That is an accomplishment that should rank on any fisherman's bucket list.
