My favourites are the purple Haze, and the black and grey. Cabezon love the black and grey when July comes around.

I make my own jigs. I've never made one like the lancer. I usually make twin tails.i just ordered a new plastic mold that is similar to lancers to try out.

I have a jighead mold that is similar to lancers that has 1, 2, 3, and 4oz cavities, I actually really like the 3oz size as 2oz is sometimes a bit light and 4oz tends to get hung up a bit more. I also pour soft plastics and have been looking for a swimbait mold I like, in the meantime I will probably just purchase the tails separately from Lancer jigs.

When you boil it all down for the cost of materials Lancer Jigs are not really very overpriced at all. If you go through a TON of jigs and fish the ocean a lot then it may pencil out to make your own, but all the materials can get to be expensive.

It's true. And I don't really lose them that much.

If you want to make a knock-off and don't pour your own, just get bullet style heads in the weight of your choice and match with a Hogy Speed Tail in the appropriate size. You won't have as polished of a lure but you'll save a few bucks across a dozen of them. <shrug> To me it's not worth it.

EDIT: I was actually thinking about Slug-Go soft plastics when I wrote that. They come in a variety of sizes.

+1
I have landed way more $$ worth of filets on what I spent at Lancer then I would have spent buying fish. You get what you pay for! In Lancers case you catch way more then you pay for.
