Hey all,

Anybody have any experience with the Raymarine Dragonfly Fish Finders?  Good/bad opinions welcome.

They are about $400 where I live which is equivalent to the Hook 4 w/nav.  Local shop has the Hook 4 w/nav on sale for $380.  Preference is to buy from a local shop vs. online shopping.

I've done some Google surfing and reviews are pretty mixed on the Lowrance.  Every video I found with the Dragonfly was pretty favourable.  Looking for others opinions who fish similar to how I plan to fish.

Plan on fishing local lakes (and those we hit when we go on holidays).  Really want it more for bottom structure to fish for Ling and rockfish.  Possibly Halibut as we get more comfortable (focus is on rockfish for now) and maybe odd Salmon but Salmon will not be a main focus.  I feel it will see much more salt water use than anything else.

Cheers

It has been discussed on here before, try the search function. The bad is no voltage remaining readout. No time of day readout. The soundings on the charts don't get larger when you zoom in, so don't mount it too far away if you want to see the details on the contours.

The good is that it's easy to switch between views. The downvision is crisp and detailed. The sonar is reliable. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I had a Humminbird and it definitely is a step up.

I will echo what 'Banger said. I really like my dragonfly unit. The split screen GPS (navionics) and sonar is great and it's simple to use. The sonar is head and tails better than my old school lowrance I had previously. All in all it's a good unit. I do wish it had the clock and the voltage readout though like was mentioned.

I have the legacy Dragonfly 6.  Quite simple to use and plenty bright.   I've not tried but my battery would probably last longer if I turned down the intensity.   I use the Navionics mapping software but probably don't use half of it while on the water.   Usually I use split screen with map/sonar.  The downvision is neat for looking at bottom structure but once I'm in position I go back to my regular display.

About every third day on the water I find I need to power it off and back on about 5 or 6 hours in, as it loses connection with the transducer.   I suspect it's a low voltage issue but I always get another 3-4 hours out of the battery.

Yes, I'd buy another.   If my daughter gets serious about it that's what I'll put on the Kraken.
