Hello anglers,

Just found this forum last week while looking for fellow yak fishermen/women.  I have been hunting and fishing since I was about 5 so long time haha.  Grew up on gulf coast in texas though. So the last 8 years here in Washington i have had to learn all new ways of doing both.   I love the multitude of seasons and species here and take part in as many as I can.  I ended up upgrading to a serious platform for fishing last month and have literally fished it almost everyday since.  Hobie pro angler 17t.  Love it!  I have been focused on lakes for trout kokanee and bass for last few weeks and been slaying them.  I am ready and comfy in my boat now to get into salt water and anxious at same time to try and get the back end of the cohos and upcoming chum runs.  I really would like to participate in group fishing or just joining others looking for fishing buddy. (I have room for two haha).  My yak is decked out too. Trolling motor, downriggers.  The works. Ready to do it. Good to be here look forward to reading forums all day at work haha.

Nice setup.  I am looking to purchase a Hobie PA as well.  Will be following your post and trying to find groups to fish with as well.

This Hobie is great!  Cant wait to troll for some salmon.  Hopefully find some others that can provide insight into techniques and places best suited to kayak angling.  Other then just trolling i mean. I love casting lures or jigging too.  Just dont know where or best practices in the sound.

Welcome and nice PA 17.  Does your trolling motor have the anchor feature?

In less than a month that will be a great chum fighting platform.  Are you geared up for salmon bobber fishing?

Anchor is my favorite feature i think.  Or record route. Then it auto pilots on recorded routes.  I have a selection of bobbers. Not sure if there are special ones for salmon fishing.  Been focused on acquiring trolling gear lately.  What special stuff is needed for bobber salmon fishing?  Is that the easy way for chums?

many guys flip jigs, pink seems to be a favorite, I'm not convinced it matters.  If you want a real sleigh ride, pay attention when they came in.  Might be some of the best fighting salmon there are.

Nice.  That was one of the areas i was thinking about hitting up this weekend too. Hoodcanal.   Do yall put in like 2 miles south at the park and pedal up or is there actually somewhere closer than the launch at the park. I havent found any good info on launch site in hood canal. I was also eyeing the belfair/ lynch cove area since the hand launch put in is close by.

Howdy - I'm also in Da Harbor...  I was going to say you can launch from that dock at the bottom of the photo, then I recalled the size of your boat.  I don't think you'd make it onto the dock thru the gateway (I have a Native Propel 13 and as I recall it barely fit last year):

Junk Jigs "BEST USE OF ACTUAL JUNK" category - "That tape should have been a prized possession and not junk. That will be a collectors item in 30 years!” & “There sure is a lot of junk in there.”

Thanks for that pic.  I might have to do a drive by and check it out. My boats 44" wide. A hefty size but looks like that gate swings open wider? I guess i will have to go extra early just in case have to drive down to the boat launch.

The stairs north of the dock ramp might work, or, someone could help lift the aircraft carrier over?

You can troll for Coho right outside gig harbor.  The shoreline north of the harbor entrance has them.  Troll a deep six diver with a Flasher, then 24 to 30 inches of leader to a cop car spoon or hoochie.  Let out 30 to 50 feet of line and troll 2.5 to 4mph WATER speed.

I also fish out of a 17T, just got it from the shop there in GH fly shop last Jan. at the sportsman show. Mine is not totally rigged up like yours. I am hoping to get the trolling motor this winter.
