I bought a Scotty Trap-Ease #750 a few years ago but it didn't work very well pulling from the centerline of my Trident 13 Mod Pod. I put it on the shelf and kind of forgot about it. I took it out this weekend when crabbing off the Kraken which I have a Locking Flush Deck Mount #244L installed on the rail.

It works amazing. Pulling the rope on your traps in the horizontal plane is much easier than hauling them up vertically. Added bonus is that your traps don't come up directly underneath your kayak, which makes getting a foot under it to kick it up on deck a snap.

A very nice accessory to have. Just make sure you have a backing plate on your mount to minimize flex of your hull.

Scotty locking flush deck mounts aren't suitable for mounting in the hull of a kayak, because water can run into the hull of a kayak through the bottom of the post socket, which isn't sealed, and water can also run in through the locking mechanism.  I'd remove the locking flush deck mount and replace it with a non-locking flush mount, which is sealed.

You can reduce the risk of using a locking flush mount in a kayak hull by buying a crutch tip or chair leg protector which fits over the bottom of the post socket, and gluing it in place.  But water will still be able to leak in through the locking mechanism.

Hobie hatches let in a lot more water than a Scotty locking flush mount. Yes, I Gooped a crutch tip on the bottom of mine.
