Whiskey Gulch 5/6 report

Went down with a buddy on Sunday to try for some kings/halibut. Weather forecast was calling for 3-4' seas out of the south. Figured we'd drive down and take a look. Worst case we could have trolled the spit. Got there on an outgoing tide with 2-3' seas. Launched at 11:00 and had a nice king in the net by 11:30. Trolled a bit more and headed out for halibut. Managed one small one and one about 30 lb. Lost a couple as well. This was my buddies first time on a kayak let alone fishing from one. He's hooked. Time to get out there guys!!

I was in Kenai Saturday and ran into some massive hail storms.  Had to be back in Anchorage Sunday so that was a bummer.  Hopefully this weekend!!!!!

Nothing fancy...we were trolling green label herring in a herring helmet behind a red/silver triangular flasher. We were in about 20 ft of water when we caught the king. The halibut were caught in about 50'. This time of year in the same location I've had good success in the past with the King Kandy needlefish lure trolling for kings.

Wow - 20' that must have been fun.  Was it a rocky spot (structure)?  Thanks for the details.  Likely a really fun fight with the salmon...
