hey everyone! I was thinking of heading to pacific city, out to the rock to do some fishing. I haven't  been in the ocean yet with a kayak. would it be fairly safe to do so this week? what should I look for before heading towards pacific city? Do I need a dry suit or wet suit this.week?? Is anyone want to meet up and show a new guy how its done? TIA Craig!

I'm going to try and get out Wednesday (late morning) and Thursday (early morning) for salmon and then rockfish after.

When are you thinking of going?

Wetsuit or dry suit any time of year in Oregon if you value your life! Hypothermia WILL KILL YOU in the ocean. So yes one or the other.... even neoprene waders as long are there the thick ones and fit tight.

Do you have a kayak jacket and waist belt to go with it?

If I had a spare kayak jacket, I'd bring it. Any chance of borrowing one from someone nearby?

You could also rent a wetsuit in PC at Moment Surf Shop, right there at the parking lot.

Sweet! I'll be leaving Hood River around 4 or 5 a.m. depending on when you want to get out there. I can bring an extra crab trap if you want to try your luck (I'll be trying mine).

I'll drop a crab pot, troll for salmon south of the rock, go for rockfish and lings/cabbies, pick up the trap and head in. I'm looking to leave on Thursday after a second session. I figure if I'm coming in from Hood River, I'm going to make it worth my while. It's another few weeks before Fall salmon come in to play here...
