I am also new to kayak fishing.  Just purchased two Hobie Pro Angler 12's and going out on the maiden voyage this Wednesday on Black Lake in Illwaco, WA.  I live in Ocean Park, WA on the Long Beach Peninsula and am looking forward to meeting up with fellow kayak anglers so I can learn the ins and outs of kayak angeling and find out where the best places to kayak and fish.  If anyone livers near or on the Peninsula I would sure like to hear from you.

Suggestion.. ditch the ratchets on the straps ( too much force) use pull tension straps , move the hold “down” straps in closer , like to where the boats actually touch the pipes and add a bow and stern strap. With it strapped like that you risk cracking your hull by flexing it as you drive.
Nice pair of yaks, welcome to the addiction our meetings take place over swimming fish  >:D

Thanks for the advice on the straps.  I had a conversation with DJ at Nestucca River Adventures (where I purchased the Hobies) and he said the same thing regarding tie-down.  Tried out the kayaks for the first time a couple of days ago on Black Lake in Illwaco, WA.  Amazing how easy and with little effort the Hobie Pro-Angler 12's moves thru the water even against the wind. Great shakedown cruise.  Next trip will be on the Chehalis River by Friends Landing.  Going to experiment with the incoming and outgoing tides, since fishing in tide affected rivers will make up most of my type of fishing

            Barhopper3 ,

   We need to talk .

I live in Raymond and fish many of the waters you will be fishing .
Let's talk and I will probably be able to shorten your learning curve .
Say when and where and we can make it happen .

Just  to let you know ----I too, am still trying to learn  this stuff since 1974 so forgive me if I can't answer all of your questions .

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent
