I’d also like to point out that I’m still waiting for Onefish to chime in & disclose some of his secrets. At least twice a week that guy is silently depleting the PC fish population but he never shares how he does it not even when you fish with him ???

Thanks Hugh.  I'm looking to get out there this weekend, provided the surf and waves lay down.

This hoochie spinner setup can be ran above a herring/anchovy mooching rig or alone as is using from  size 1 to size 3/0 hooks.

How do you run this above a herring?  Is it like adding a shrimp fly to a botttom fishing rig?  I did not know people tolled two setups.  Could not imagine a double lol

I can't speak specifically for how Hugh sets up his baits, but a common practice with spinners and hootchies is to simply have them running on the leader line directly above the hooks.  The Rogue River Bait Rig is an example of this.  You're still fishing with only one bait.  It's just "enhanced" with the addition of a spinner and/or hootchie.

First on the water before daylight, I trolled south of the rock onto a beautiful rip line with a ton of birds, bait, and a breaching whale. My heart was racing with anticipation & soon I watched my rod tip dance before dipping. Game on! I heard a slash behind me with strange pulsing on the line. I reel in a pissed off puffin that gave me a hell of a fight after ruining my best herring :angryfire:
It wasn’t long before 30+ boats showed up & we all trolled all the beautiful rips that formed around the rock throughout the morning. I lost one chinook that stripped my herring & missed the hooks.
The bites were few far between & sporadic. Water temp was 55 at the beach, 56.4 at the rock, and 57.6 out at the 120 ft line. In effort to escape the crowd I went out to 100ft & found a quick coho bite going 2/4.
Most of the boats had given up on Chinook at this point so I went back to the grind chasing rips near the rock. Fisherman’s has really shitty herring, Jerry’s Bait, and I was not impressed with what I had left. I threw on the best of my bunch & found myself in a long fight with a burley buck. He had a greenish bronze hue but cut extremely red. The left ventral fin looks like a misclip or a regeneration, so maybe a Rogue river hatchery strain IDK.
He went 36x23. His stomach contents were very impressive. The “last supper”  from right to left, with my herring as dessert.
