In Anchorage 8/27-29, without Kayak. Where / what to fish?

Hi Alaska friends,

I'm gonna be in Anchorage for 3 days late August.  I'm looking to leave my money with a guide there. 

Any suggestions?
Also, should I try for salmon or halibut?  I'm in Portland, Oregon, so both are available here, but they just aren't available in the same numbers.

If you're willing to make the drive to Homer, book a combo trip with  brooks Alaskan adventures. He's known for putting his clients on kings as well as big halibut. Seward would be a shorter drive for you but I'm not familiar with the guides down there.

In addition to the Homer trip as suggested by Swanson Silver but that's 4 hours one way from Anchorage and flight schedules aren't conducive to day trips.

If I had three days centered around Anchorage I would consider:

1) A guided trip down the Kenai River for cohos and World Class Rainbows and Dolly Varden Anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours out of Anchorage depending on whether the guide you pick fishes upper or middle kenai River.

2) Salmon/Halibut Combo charter out of Seward.  Should be able to do both about that time. 2 hours out of Anchorage.

3) Ling Cod/Halibut Charter out of Seward.  Lings will be less available as they get cleared out pretty quickly after the opener on July 1.  But the minimum size for retention here is 35 inches.  Pretty big relative to down in the states. 

You could hit Seward, the Kenai River, then Homer or in reverse if you didn't mind driving a few hours.
