I currently have yakama bars  (round cross bars) on my Passat wagon. I transport my revo 13 bottom down on foam blocks.  Works great.  If i want to carry the rev 13 and an outback on my roof, what are my options?

Do I just need to by some j cradles?

I have 72 inch bars and I can car-top two outbacks upside down. I am not sure what length your bars are, but you may be able to get them both flat. We got a revo and outback side by side on 66 inch bars with no problem.  I have put these doo-hickies (U-bolts) on to ensure the straps do not slide off the ends.

My wife and I own an Outback and a Revo, and I would not recommend using j-racks for the Outback. We put a few dents our Outback using a j-rack during a long drive. The j-rack works great for the revo though! I wound up building a trailer with 72inch bars wrapped with nerf noodles, and transport both kayaks upside down.

What about a hybrid approach?  J Cradle for the Revo and the Outback laid flat on the bars.

I will check the length of my bars, I will check tomorrow.  Since the bars are at head height on my car, I didn't want make them to long or people getting into the car might bump their heads.

Yeah go with J rack for revo and put the other one upside down. Same thing JoJo recommended.

What Mojo and Lee said. Another option, which is what I do, is I have J racks on both sides, so I have yaks pointing like this on the top of the car:   / \  Works well with my Revo and my wife's Jackson, that is almost as wide as an outback. It would be better to have it like Mojo and Lee say though.

No but a bunch of PETA activist tried to push you back into the surf thinking you were a stranded whale on the beach ....
