Have recently retired (28 yrs. law enforcement and 15 yrs. teaching criminal justice at IU).  Wife said take me to Oregon and all you have to worry about is hunting and fishing, no more work.  Have settled in Dallas, OR.  Just purchased a Hobie Outback and finally got my fishing gear unpacked.  Fishing here is entirely different from IN where I primarily fished for bass.  Looking for mentor(s) who would be willing to share information on local fishing, techniques, etc.  I'm anxious to get the Hobie wet, now if the weather will just straighten up.

Welcome to Oregon and NWKA and thank you for your law enforcement service.

I think you will enjoy the many varieties of fishing opportunities there are in your location.  Your outback is a great choice.  That is what I do most of my fishing from.

Keep your eye open on the forum for people posting where and when the are going.  Also, jump into some of the fishing tournaments.  They are a lot of fun and a great way to learn new areas.
Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

Welcome to the beaver state!
I’m also retired LE and live just south of you in Albany. Although I have many years of fishing and boating experience, I too am just getting into kayaks (PA 14). Give me a shout if you’d like to get together.

Welcome , thanks for your service, as a retired LE your welcome to join our HOW outings as well as your family members.  I live inGaribaldi and if the tides are right and you want to drive to the coast I’ll introduce you to salt water fishing in the protection of Tillamook bay. We fish for bottom fish and usually drop crab traps.

Welcome!

You are right, fishing is different out here.  I learned to fish in Michigan so am still re-learning myself.
What I've learned so far: no live bait here, so more technique needed to replicate those same live bait behaviours we are used to.  Bait scents, more rod technique, experimenting to find what they like.  I think the water is a little colder here too, in general.
