Got my Hobie Outback (my first kayak) a few months ago, for all things fishing...highly anticipating Salmon fishing...especially Springers...been out I think 5 or 6 times now in the last couple weeks, and today was the day.  My first Spring Chinook this year, and in my kayak.
Started at first light, met Barb and Brian at the put in and trolled around, backbounced a while...but finally it was a downhill troll on a herring w a flasher that got the bite.  Pretty exciting...I managed to even get a net under it, while a big stellar sea lion was close by, tearing a 5' sturgeon to pieces.  A great way to kick off the day.
At one point, there were 6 of us kayakers out there, pretty sweet really.
Anyway, here is a pic of my fish...   :-)

On another note, last night, while switching my Mirage Drive into reverse, pulling the cable, it snapped right at the base where it attaches to the drive.  I've rigged up a barely-working fix in the meantime, until i figure out how/what/where to get it fixed...but...if anyone has any experience or suggestions, i'm happy to hear them.  I bought the kayak at Next Adventure, will be calling them today.

Congrats!  I was sort of expecting a picture of it missing an eye or something, though. :). Bummer on the drive, hopefully it's repaired quickly so you can get more Chinook blood on the deck.
Kayaking without wearing a PFD is like drunk driving.  You can get away with it for a while, but eventually someone dies.

Is your drive a v1 or v2 md180? I believe in the switch to v2, Hobie beefed up the drive cables.  I’m also pretty sure if you have the v1 you can get a free cable upgrade if it breaks. Regardless, nice fish!

Killer job, and thanks for posting it. I had a feeling about you when we pulled off the ramp yesterday.
Way to go, and I'm sure you will catch a lot more this year.
Enjoy your butter with scales!

I dont know if this applies to your kayak. I emailed my Hobie dealer and requested this free upgrade for the fins on my 2017 Tandem Island. Hobie sent the modified fins direct to my home, along with 2 sets of the pull cables. The new design is not adjustable as the old 180s but much simpler to repair, esp' on the water.
