cold and frosty on the beach as we launched at sunrise (7am) but a sunny and light wind day made it worth dealing with a really strong incoming tide (8.9' high at 11am).  the new Outback performed as expected, I posted some specific observations on the kayak at the Hobie forum, here is a link to that:

https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=64042

here is the Outback rigged up for the day,  I estimate we left with about 310# (270# of mammals, 40# of gear) on board a 425# capacity boat, it felt great going out and handled just as good coming back about 25# heavier  ;D:

the crabbing was good, one or 2 solid keepers in each of my first 15 minute test soaks, tossed back a couple large ones that were a little soft, and with 6 in the front hold quickly, I focused on getting at least one lingcod, letting the pots have a nice long soak.

There is more kelp now along the sunken jetty, great fish habitat but it presents some challenges to fishing near the reef, especially when the tidal flow had some of the kelp is hovering just below the surface (I sure like being able to tuck my fins up against the hull). I destroyed my first 2 bait squid getting caught up on kelp, then caught a pair of teal lings (26" and 24") on the same squid over about a 20 minute span. My approach was:  move close to the reef trying to stay between kelp, gently bounce the bottom, fish on, back out of the kelp fast and don't mess around as there were a few large pinnipeds paying close attention to what I was doing.
Sonar showed schools of rockfish in the area several times, probably some greenlings too, but I was targeting lings so we headed for the crab pots- first had 2 more keepers, second was a 4 keeper pot and we were done.

Here is the full outing video:

This is what I hoped the new Outback would let us do and wow does it deliver.  Pepper has been around a lot of big fish, that first lingcod is the first fish that she wasn't quite sure about.  Once I explained to her how tasty they are, she let me keep it ;D  cheers, roger

Great report and ditto video!!

Thanks for sharing.

I can't wait for my cold to get over so that I can try to get some dungies from Tillamook Bay.

Thanks for the report, I’d love to get my lab out on my AI someday on the tramp.

The new outback looks like a winner!

Great video thanks for sharing. I'm going to have to give that area a try for lings the next time I'm up in Coos Bay.

Thumbs up on the video and report! Your enthusiasm is contagious. I need some fresh crab. Way to make it happen in the cold weather.
