I've been fishing in the Tri Cities area on the Columbia River up by the Hanford Reach.  I picked up a jack early and have had a frustrating year up until yesterday.

I've had 3 fish about rip the rod holder off while trolling, pick the rod up and out of the holder, fish on for a second and then they're off.  I've lost one in the middle of the battle and another right at the kayak before I could even get my net in the water when it went under my kayak and must have bumped the kayak and got off.

I went out last night and tonight and finally put a couple in the net.  Hopefully I'm over my bad luck streak and will be onto some good fishing.  These fish are   dark compared to the chromes you guys down stream are used to seeing.  Up here they're what we've got.   They're tasty on the bbq.  The fillets are still nice and orange, but the fish have a few battle scars.  Hopefully there will be many more in the future.

Nice job Mike.  Those upriver fish cut really nice.

Thanks for the report! I've always wanted to fish that stretch of river - the last free-flowing stretch of the mighty Columbia. That fish cut nicely by the looks of it; nothing to be ashamed of.

The majority of the fish cut up nice. The fishing up here this year has been a little tougher than the last few years for some reason. Seeing lots of fish, but they're a lot harder to get to bite. If you ever want to come up here and fish let me know.

Nice work!! The hanford area has been on my fishing bucket list for a little while now. Maybe a group of us will have to make the drive at some point.

Thank you, that's a very generous offer. I really need to quit my job.  ;D

Sam and I braved the wind tonight as the future forecast was calling for even more wind.  I was able to pick up this girl after about 10 minutes of trolling a shortbus flasher / super bait combo.
