Hey Guys and Gals,

This year I'm experimenting with turning over my Northwest Sportsman, "Kayak Guys" column to other Oregon kayak anglers who want their 15min of published author fame.  You may have already seen Captain Redbeard's article on winter flounder or MurseStrong's recent piece on steelheading down coastal rivers.

As I've been able to cover the NW corner of our state pretty thoroughly, I'm looking for someone with experience in the lesser catalogued reaches of Oregon.  Some ideas are Central Oregon's Cascade Lakes, Umpqua Chinook, Far Eastern Oregon Trout and Bass. South Coast Largemouth, Upper Columbia Walley, etc.

Whether you want to write your own or simply share the benefit of your experiences thru me, hit me up!

Thanks Guys!

If only I caught fish, but the best I could do is write an "I almost caught a fish" article.  Rats!

Yeah, I got that part covered.  If they need a humorous article, I'm ready.

You should know my friend.  Not only did I interview you, I quoted you multiple times in the NWS article I wrote last summer.   ;D

That said, I'm open to an article written from the perspective of one of those crazy SOB's....

Mark, are you interested to do an article about Kokanee fisheries? I know a thing or two.  Lots of great Kokanee waters in The northwest!

This would be great!! I had several kayak fisherman asking me how they could troll for kokanee from the kayaks at Odell lake. I pointed them to Tyler's videos on it, but an article would be great too!

A collection of stories about days when it all failed?  We might be onto something.  Mark?

Perusing our various forum topics, the reader quickly becomes aware of countless, talented individuals, who are from every walk of life, and regularly contribute to NWKA. So Mark, with this wealth of information, and now that you've got this idea brewing, what about a poll/on-going thread, showing specific areas of interest the kayaking community would like to read about?

Personally, I would read an article on trout fishing with interest. That said, an article on Things to do in your tandem when the bite is slow, where anglers switch seats and corn row each others hair....probably not.

I can't get enough information on the how/what/where/when articles for trout, bluegill, largemouth/smallmouth bass or crappie, but can do without another salmon/steelhead article. How about chasing those "smaller" fresh water species from our kayaks with an ultra-light rod...or a 3 weight fly fishing rod? Definitely much different tactics employed since they prefer the depths, but what about Kokanee?

Good luck with this, Mark. Like many, I have enjoyed your Northwest Sportsman column for years. I'm looking forward to seeing this new approach and thank you in advance to you, and the many contributors.

Dave
