In early May we held the first annual Washington State Kayak Fishing Festival on Banks Lake at Coulee Playland Resort in Electric City, WA. Strategically located this spot provides access to dozens of lakes within 30 minutes of the festival headquarters. I had intended to make this event crazy big this year but a brush with a near fatal case of flu/pneumonia set me back for over a month. Instead I decided to make this a mellow event this year to work out the kinks for another go next year. Ultimately the goal was to generate awareness about kayak angling in the region, generate some funds for HOW-SE WA, and just have a fun and safe time.

Camping spots were provided for $7 a night at the resort and we had a Friday night social with some rigging demonstrations from myself. Saturday everybody split up and fished various lakes. Numerous Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass were caught as well as Walleye and Rainbow Trout. In total we 37 kayak anglers participate from as far away as Lake Stevens and Kelso, WA. In the afternoon we had a fierce casting competition and best rigged/dirtiest kayak competition. We gave away over $500 worth of prizes from RAM Mounts, Paulina Peak Tackle, Yakima Bait Company, Brad's Killer Fishing Gear, and North 40 Outfitters.

We raised $400 for the HOW-SE WA chapter and best of all was numerous vets were able to participate and had a great time.

I am looking forward to holding this event next year and probably adding an AOTD tournament to the format.

Thanks to all those who attended and the sponsors.

Looks like an awesome event.  I normally have a WA license; would love to attend the next one.
Kayaking without wearing a PFD is like drunk driving.  You can get away with it for a while, but eventually someone dies.

Tyler, any plans in the works for a 2nd annual meet-up? If so, Will it take place in Electric City again this year? Thanks!
