Heading down to Tillamook to do some crabbing this weekend while the bay is still crab friendly.  I have seen kayak vids fishing for rock fish at the inside bend of the jetty.  Anyone have any pointers on how, where, what on getting some rock fish while the crab pots soak.  Also, any fav spots for the crabs?  I have done very well this year right off the coast guard dock. Crab harbor has been a pot eater for me in the past.

You might want to wait a few weeks before fishing rockfish.  It's closed until Jan 1st.

Unless ODFW says otherwise bottom fishing is closed so no rockfish! Surf perch might be open but I’d check with ODFW to be sure. Don’t want anyone getting into trouble :police: if either IS open let me know and I’ll point you in the right direction but for perch I suck at catching... just saying.

Perch is still open.  They are listed in their own section similar to the flat fishes in the regulations.  They don't fall under the "rockfish" regulations.  At least that's the way I read it.  (Call to be sure.  You can't assume anything with this state)

If you go for perch they can be found hanging out around the old pier pilings.  Sandshrimp or gulp sand worms work great.  Make sure you use small hooks though, they have small mouths.  Otherwise you'll get lots of bites but you'll have a hard time making them stick.  I have caught striped perch out near the jetty but not very often and I don't think it'd be worth the trip out there for no fish.

If it was me, I'd drop my pots right by the coast guard and then fish for perch by the pier.

That's a nice haul of sea spiders!  Too bad you couldn't find any fish to add to that haul.

I should have been trolling for salmon.  Say two caught right in front of the Coast Guard station.  Wasn’t sure where the perch would be so was shooting the dark a bit
