How do you safely and effectively pee from a kayak when you're out on the water with no nearby place to land?  After a couple of hours on the water, this can become a pretty pressing question.  I'm a guy, but I'm not interested in standing up in my kayak.

I've posted this in the kayak rigging category because there may be some equipment involved.  But perhaps I should have posted it in the safety category.  Certainly the peeing process entails some risks.  Or maybe I should have posted it in the "Waving the Bug Wand" category.

What a funny topic. My whole life I have never been able to pee while sitting down. When I got into kayak fishing I realized pretty quickly that it could become a problem. On a calm day or any day that isn't really choppy I used to turn around I'm my seat and get up on my knees and brace myself with one arm and aim over the slide with the other. That proves to be a little sketchy in bumpy seas.
At ORC I knew I wouldn't be able to head to shore to pee and the conditions weren't in favor of the 'take a knee' approach. So I sat there with my relief zipper open...pushing with All my might to squeeze out any urine. To my surprise I was actually able to take care of business.
So now I just unzip and water the mirage drive hole when ever it gets thirsty.

Hope that helps.

yep I use the drive hole or a wide mouth bottle. Bigger mouth is better because you dont have to look especially if your PFD is blocking your view. Maybe you can get a bed bottle.

While I was filming some carp shooting earlier this year I had to relieve myself.  I forgot the camera was rolling until I was going through the footage later on.......

I deleted the video.  Your welcome.

On the last media trip we did, the videographer said that on his last shoot he had a lot of footage of kayak anglers relieving themselves.  He wanted us to be aware of the camera so we wouldn't repeat those "mistakes".  I told him it would have made a good educational video.   ::)

Here's one of the more interesting threads I've read on this:

Brad sure has this whole kayak / fishing / peeing thing down to a science.  ;)
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

So far I haven't had to pee at all from my kayak while on the water.  Between having a large capacity and managing my fluid intake it hasn't been an issue.  The times I've put in 8 hour days on the water I've also been able to take shore breaks, so I'd just hold it until I was on land.  I don't have a drive well to pee into either.

The hawg trough pee ramp is a great idea!  For me it depends on conditions and privacy, but most of the time I just use the drive well.

Just unzip and cast a rainbow .... Just pitch off the last little bit to avoid dribble in the dry suit.

The real victory was the girlfriend finally finding a solution to peeing on the water!

You don't need a drivewell.  Footwells work perfectly fine.  Splash a little water on them when you're done and it all flows out the scupper holes.

It was a team effort. A wide mouthed cup or bottle is needed. While I stabilized her yak she knelt and leaned forward. She reached into her suit through the relief zipper and peeded into the cup. All and all pretty easy. Key is the widest mouthed cup she can fit inside her suit.
