I need new video editing software and was overwhelmed by the choices available.  You guys always seem to put out interesting and well edited videos so I figured I could get a few suggestions here.  I have the Gopro HD and a couple other HD and non-HD cameras.   Unfortunately, I only have a PC, so no Mac stuff.  Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks,

Craig

Craig I'm gonna bump this cuz I have the same question. Anybody have any suggestions for software? Preferably some free software? I've heard there are some pretty decent ones out there that allow export of full HD video and has some great splicing options.
What are you PC users using for gopro editing?
Thanks!

I am using final cut and it makes me want to cut myself.  I really would like something simpler.

Windows Movie Maker has always worked for me and is free...It does a great job timing a slideshow automatically to music and the movie editing is simple.

You guys should also take a look at Vegas Movie Studio packages. You can download trial versions.

For some reason windows movie maker can't open my gopro 2 video files. They default to QuickTime. I changed it to open with windows media and the video won't open. Some error about a codec not being installed. Frustrating.

I've had that problem before.  I can't remember exactly what I did to fix it, but a reinstall of Window Media Player or an upgrade to the latest version should fix it.  Do some digging around the web if you haven't already.  There's probably a codec out there that provides a quick and easy fix.

It's not free but I use power director 10 for the PC. Simple and I haven't even begun to tap its potential. I think you can order power director 9 for a lot cheaper.

I use Windows Live Movie Maker(free with Windows 7) for my videos and it's amazing for a freebie.

Also, Adobe Premier or Adobe Premier Elements is really good quality stuff but not free.  It's been around for a while, tried and true.

Thanks Rawk. I'll try that.
I think the real issue is I need a new computer. I'm got about 5 years and quite a few miles on the ole laptop and am in need of an upgrade. Thinking of trying the MacBook Air.

RR -- you might be missing h.264 codec. A couple of things you can try: 1) download videolan's vlc media player. this might install the h.264 codec. 2) google search for windows codec. you should have a few hits that will have a prepackaged installer that includes a bunch of common codecs.

RR ... If you're going for  a Macbook Air there is really good editing software available at a very reasonable price. You can use a very good editor thats very inexpensive  by buying the App for iMovie 11 for $14.95. It is very powerful, capable of quite fancy editing, sound editing, titling, and voice over. It comes with royalty free music and sound effects owned by Apple.

Since You Tube's been getting so testy about using copyright-protected music, Ive been challenged twice by people claiming that I have violated their copyright by using  music. I've won both fights in less than 12 hours, by saying my project was edited using Apple's iMovie and the music clips were provided royalty free, by Apple Computer. Such was the case for two of my videos that were posted on NWKA by Jammer. I think some people file claims as a scam to eliminate  the competition or or as a setup to scam some money.

By the way, that same editing software works beautifully on the iPad and that is a great device for showing your videos to your friends.
