Yea, Yea - I know I'm like over a thousand miles away, but I try to get up and vacation in Tofino every year. In several months I get my new Hobie PA, and I'm having dreams of hauling it along with me and catching salmon, halibut and Ling Cod in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I plan on rigging the new yak with a downrigger, which will enable me to troll bait along the bottom here off the San Diego kelp for the summer Yellowtail, halibut and thresher shark - a fishing technique that is not commonly seen here, and will be just as useful up there I'm sure...

welcome to the site. apparently "us people" from SoCal are looked down upon because they're better than us or something. I don't get it. maybe they think we are all like people from LA

salmon is fun to catch but the fishing here in wa is pretty spread out. ive only fished the Seattle area a few months but the rules seem like they're set to discourage sport fishing. I haven't really cared to make a 3hr trip to the coast to go fishing and receive multiple citations for not memorizing the rule book that makes a bible look like light reading. but good luck!

"Us people"(myself included) from SoCal are certainly not looked down upon up here.  I feel more welcome up here than I ever did living in San Diego.  The only things I wish the Northwest had that San Diego has are yellowtail and the Chargers!  (Oh yeah, and warmer ocean water temps ;D)

Downrigger at the kelp edge, huh?  I like it.  I would be nervous about getting the darn thing fouled up in an outlying stringer of kelp, but I think it is totally worth a try.  Since moving up here and learning the fishing techniques, I have wondered just how crazy yellowtail would go for a nice cut-plug blue label herring spinning in their face.

Welcome to the boards, Baja!
