Title: Sand Shrimp
Post by: bilder on May 28, 2014, 09:48:08 PM
Yes I did.

Take some sand shrimp, give them a soak in white wine (rice wine would probably be better), dredge in some seasoned flour and fry till they are golden brown and delicious.

I would say similar in taste to crawdads, but a bit more fishy.

I would try it at least once, but I hope they smell better than fresh!

Very brave!  Did the meat firm up when cooked, or were they as gooey as the are when alive?

I've cooked up muscles, limpets, clams, etc that were originally picked for bait, but sand shrimp would be a new one for me.

Yep, the whole thing down the hatch.

Gave them a nice crunch.  The shell is pretty thin so it was not harsh or anything like that.

Yes it firmed up pretty well.  Was like crawfish or shrimp meat, perhaps a touch softer.  Squeeze on some lemon and it was not too bad.

I'm thinking I'd skip the whole body with pinchers and maybe just fry up the tails?

I'm thinking there ain't no way I'll eat sand shrimp. Bait -- okay. Food--- no way.

Sandshrimp eh?  I've eaten almost every other kind of seafood but I've never even considered eating those.  Guess I'll have to give them a try.     :-\

Mark, I agree...yet disagree...

I wouldn't mind trying them...once...
But, I would have a serious psychological issue eating snot in a shell...

However, after a few nice darks beers... I would be more like "Why the hell not!!"

Man, I'd eat a wingnut if it was battered and deep fried, but sand shrimp ? I think they are pretty much already rotten before they're dead, even.
