Langston and I took off early this morning for a trip of a lifetime. We are heading to Loreto, Baja. to try our lines for dorado, pargo, yellow tail and Rooster fish. We will be joined by three others as we cross into Mexico. Wish us luck as we empty one cooler and try to fill another.

NICE!! :headbang: We want lots of fish porn!!
-
We will have one camera dedicated to monitoring Langston. This should pay off big time. Also, his kayak will be rubbed with bloody tuna scent. We couldn't afford a shark shield for the rest of us. >:D
-
Sounds like a fun trip! Post plenty of porn (but not with Langston in it!)

There is another forum for that somewhere I am sure.

Good luck and be safe boys!!! Super jealous.
-
This sounds amazing!! Hope you guys kill it! Sorry bout your luck Langston...
-
So jealous! Have a blast guys and try to be nice to Langston. Except take pictures when he gets drunk and starts hitting on the bar maids. Video may be even better... >:D
-
Wow, sounds like a blast!
-
You guy's are going to have a great time. We want pictures.
Dana
-
See you guys tonight.
-
I can hardly wait for the report. Bring hand sanitizer, though. Loreto was where the Mexican microbes caught up with me the one time I went down there.
-
Have a good trip boyz! I hope you the best of luck on catching big fish, not big fish catching you!
Look forward to the report. That trip has been on my radar for years, and it's going to be interesting to hear how it goes.
More importantly, I wish your truck and trailer a safe trip as well, as Baja can be a death sentence for anything with wheels.
-
I am soooo jealous!!!!
You guys have fun and be safe!
-Mark-
-
Go get'em!!! Be safe and post up the porn!!!!!!!!!
-
Have a safe & fun trip. And keep a camera on Craig, too. I've seen a few videos and read a few posts of his that rival Langston's antics... But definitely keep an eye on Langston!
Buena pesca !
-
Good luck guys.
-
Good luck, I'm very jealous as well. It's been nearly 10 years since I made a similar kayak fishing road trip to Baja.
-
Be safe out there and have fun! Wave when you pass La Jolla, paddled there with an old friend yesterday. Very friendly grebes! (http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/10/18/24205f94f29ec04348d3c9e4cfd31133.jpg)

Went out today! Flippin awesome day. It was warm and the seas were calm. Nate, Craig and I caught 4 species. While Birthday boy Langston caught 3. Anthony had a great day also.
Craig was the first one of us to catch a Rooster Fish. Porn to follow later. Time for bed.
-
Excellent! Can't wait to see the photos.
-
Bad ass!!
-
Excellent! I'm sure the pics will be great.
So many questions to be answered soon. What species? What was the hot lure? Did birthday boy return to shore with the same number of rods he left with?
It sounds like the trip is off to a great start.
-
Well. I think we lost Langston, Steve, Craig, Nate and Anthony. They are either never coming back or ran afoul of Los federales. Either way, fair seas and tight lines guys!
Seriously, can you take some
Time to give us a report already?
-
Me pregunto como salieron.

They're back in the US.

I guess with that answered, did all there gear make it back as well?
-
Back in the USA. The trailer made it with flying colors. Nate lost his sun glasses, Craig spotted a Merbear, Langston evaded the Federales and Anthony is grateful that we all came back Montezuma's revenge free. All in all a successful trip!(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/10/26/1d724e8572c9203672140e3898f638cd.jpg)

Glad to hear it! I bet that was an awesome adventure! Once you're settled back into reality I hope to see some pics and hear some stories!
-
I googled merbear & this is what I got. You can keep that fish I'll stick with my ling & cabezon...

It sounds like the trip is off to a great start.
My hot lure was Rusty the Spoon I bought about 30+ years ago. I had never caught fish with it before, but it was shiny and looked like a bait fish. I heard the fishies in Baja like that kind of stuff. I probably caught close to 50 fish with it (nothing real big except some larger trigger fish). It rusted daily as I was using it. Every morning, and throughout the day, I would scrape the rust off of Rusty with my bait knife. I couldn't keep the fish off him. They also liked my deep diving Cabela's brand walleye crank baits.
This time of year is actually the worst time to fish where we were at. The Dorado were no longer there in any numbers to get excited about, and the Yellowtail were just showing up. However, I knew this in advance and I made the best of it. I enjoyed fishing barefoot and with no drysuit in October.
I caught a couple smaller roosterfish (on Rusty) and about 9 other species. After realizing the big fish were not around, I switched to my lightest gear and had an absolute blast catching the fish that were there. At that point, I made a goal of trying to catch as many species as possible. My favorite on the light tackle were the ladyfish. They would come flying out of the water about 6 feet in the air and spit your hook right back at you. The trigger fish were also fun to catch on light tackle and we kept a few one day and made Ceviche. Yum! After awhile though, they just became annoying. I was trying to catch Pargo one day, and you couldn't get the bait down past those little bastards.
I have to go get my stuff from Wobbler now so it doesn't get rustier than it is, but here is my newly retired best friend Rusty.

Couple o' triggerfish (Bendo etc.). They became the ceviche. They are also a bitch to clean.

More later to include Langston and my yellowtail and his Dorado.

Thank you for saving this thread, Craig! It had taken a turn for the worse... ;D
-
Baja was awesome, good friends, good weather, good scenery and plenty of fish. Like Craig said, the big fish did not cooperate so we fished for whatever we could find. I ended up landing 15 different species inducing 10 new ones. I was pretty bad about taking pictures but I got this nice one.

Welcome back fellas.

Thank you for saving this thread, Craig! It had taken a turn for the worse... ;D
Don't speak too soon. There may be a Merbear video coming...time permitting.
-
Unleash the Langston!!!
-Allen
-
Great Goddess!! Could you imagine the Jadester involved in a MerBear incident?
-
Be very, very careful. The MerBear unleashed may cause permanent scars to ones psyche. I may have to claim PTSD.
Honestly, the trip was awesome. To be included in a group of such dedicated and talented fisherman was amazing. I learned so much just by watching and emulating. My species count topped out at thirteen. The Roosterfish was my favorite one to catch. Or was it the Ladyfish, it might of been the big triggers on a 6 to 15 weight rod. No, it was the Sierra. That's it! As you can see it was quite a trip!

Unless you are completely blind,
Carefully search this photo and the Merbear you will find

License plate. Scary stuff! :o

Correcto Amigo! ;D I had to do something to cover Wobbler's plate. I don't know if he wants pictures of it or not.
-
damnit Craig
-
Can't be unseen!
-
I want the picture, but not the MerBear. Sorry Langston, but a mental memory live is worth more than a thousand pictures!
-
Glad you guys made the trip but was this really ALL the pictures?? Been gone awhile and was hoping for a bit more fish porn from down there.
-
These ladyfish were plentiful and a lot of fun to catch. After they were hooked they spent more time in the air than in the water. Fishing in that area was pretty slow in October. Word on the docks was you want to be there in July.
