Title: Idaho Kayaks (Show us your ride)
Post by: Tohopko on May 02, 2016, 06:25:22 AM
Suddenly we seem to have a surge of Idaho Kayakers.  How about a few pics to make it real?

I'm Jim, in Cd'A, piloting a Slayer Propel 13

Kalph:  Is that the new Stealth?  I'm glad to see some folks choosing Malibu.  I love mine.  I'll have to dig up a photo.  Its been a while since I snapped a pic of my ride.

EDIT:  Well I'm wrong.  Its an X-factor.  Those weren't available when I got my Stealth.  You'll love it though.  Did you get the live well package?

Kalph, super nice ride!

My name is Todd, I ride a mango Hobie Revo 13, and a wood Petrel Play sit inside that I built.  I also have an inflatable advanced elements kayak and a 19' power boat!  I mostly fish  out of the Hobie though.(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160504/c06d684e3502be1842996843ed62fb18.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160504/cc845fbb4ebf7c8bde3362971d0ffb33.jpg)

Todd, you are as bad as I am...3 kayaks and two power boats here, and could easily pick up another yak or two!

The mount works good. Kayak didnt budge, mount didnt budge. Most popular chip said were the stealth 12s. He said he only sells about 4 x factors a year though.

Keith, looks good!  Just a suggestion--I would add a bow and stern line tied down to your bumpers for extra security.  They won't hold it on, but they will help avoid rocking and twisting.

Todd, I forgot to mention--that wooden boat is sweet!

Yeah. I was going to. But the ties i had were too small. Chip actually let me use his. I wasnt counting on the kayak being that big haha

Hahaha i know. My wife is gonna have our 5th kid in november. So were gonna be getting a suv with 3rd row seating as both of us dont want a van. So i get my truck back. I just gave it ro my wife and use my car pretty much exclusively to go to and from work.

Once i get the truck i can toss it in the bed and strap it down and be good to go.

Got the wife and I a couple new rides, nothing fancy but far more comfortable than our previous yaks.

We will be on the water Sunday!(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160520/71a11e2bac72e13b3e8a420b00c088bc.jpg)(http://)

Here is my ride.  (Ignore the bank trash.  Not mine.  I didn't see it until I looked at the picture.  I'd have picked it up).

Malibu Stealth 12.   Homemade transducer arm sticking in the air.

Looked at this one. Opted for the xfactor.

Kinda having trouble figuring out how to use the kayak kart with it though :/

Are you using a scupper mounted cart or just a standard underslung cart?  The deep keel on mine has been interesting to work with carts.  the PVC/pool noodle cart worked really well for me.  The cart arms would sit right along the keel (parallel).  The other karts with arms perpendicular to the keel are more challenging as the carts are not usually deep enough to accommodate the deep malibu keel.   Straps were essential in that case with a snug fit.

In both cases you have two techniques, use the cart to get the yak to the waters edge and then launch it, or roll the cart right into the water and launch the yak like you would launch a boat.  I've done both and the success of a "boat like" launch was highly dependent on cart.  My PVC cart did not stand up to a boat launch.

Mine isnt a scupper mounted cart. It does need straps. Im gon a have to play with it or just get a new one. But the keel is deeper. So it has to be strapped down. Need to buy the winch type though. The cheap ones thst came with it are garbage.
