Flew to Sitka yesterday for vacation with my family. Today was the first charter day, and was awesome! Wasn't from my kayak, but I caught my personal best Chinook, and a nice halibut. We will be on the water tomorrow and Wednesday for more fish for the freezers.

That is a great King Kevin. What did it weigh ?
And I don't think I have ever seen an axe buried in a halibut with such precision before.
Nice job ... have the rest of your vacation.

Hi Mark, the guide told me 30-35lbs, and a little over 38 inches. Caught another 30lb King today too! And another halibut. Best fishing of my life! Throwing back 15-20lb Kings all day

If you do, I'd recommend Derrick Floyd with Reel Class Charters. We have been outfishing everyone we talk to. This is from day three

Sounds like a great trip! Any info on good areas for kayak fishing in that area? Doable where you fished? Where did you stay?
I'm headed to Sitka or Craig next June.

We stayed at the Westmark across from the docks. As far as kayak fishing, I'm sure you could find some protected areas in the islands close to Sitka. It reminds me a lot of the San Juan Islands in Washington. We went about 40 miles south of Sitka along the coastline to some secret spots where there were literally no other boats, so these are not kayak friendly. I've heard the salmon fishing in Craig is really good too. Supposedly someone caught a 70+lb king there a few weeks ago.
