I picked it up Tuesday and got the new Outback wet yesterday on Siltcoos, to get Pepper's approval of the back deck area and try for an early coho (lake is very low, no sign of any coho yet, we need a big rain event).
I love the boat, glides and goes as expected, sides are low (it's like they sliced 3" right off the top), my hands are used to dropping down to the Oasis steering without looking, which yesterday meant my hand was still 3" above the steering controller! It is so nice to have steering control on both sides again and the drop down rudder does not disappoint. The rectangular hatch that opens with a smooth 1/4 turn is way better than the old round ones.
Wind came up and organized some small whitecaps, I 'quartered' them at speed for a while and the bow split them nicely, sending all the spray off to the side.
Installing a Hook2 5" tripleshot today and cutting a mat to fit the back deck to give Pepper a little better footing. Then we are going to get this thing bloody...

Thanks for the report. The 2019 Outback is on my list of "next buy" kayaks. Square hatch and improved rear carry handle, finally!
As much as I enjoy sunny days, I'm jonesing for a few gully-washers to kick the lakes and rivers into gear. Last year, I was catching coho in Tahkenitch by the third week of October. Doesn't look like that's going to happen this year...

There's plenty of them in Siltcoos - I managed to catch one on a bass crankbait during a tournament. The water is low so the fish should be the channels.

plenty of what? bass? lol (or did you catch a coho smolt in the lake earlier in the summer? that would make sense).
empty parking lot at the launch again today, when the coho are in the lake, the parking lot is full and the lake swarming with boats. about 3 boats on the whole lake on Oct.19, and one of them was me.
even the SRC run is weak/late this year...
