Thinking about hobies again.  Like the title says... what do you lose if you buy a used hobie?  Does it still have any manufacturer warranty, etc?  Who has found it important to have a store you can connect with after your purchase?

Well, for starters, you won't be the first one to fart in the seat.

Really, you just lose out on warranty, it's just like buying any other Yak.  Check the mirage drive to make sure it's not all jacked up. When you get it home, look up on YouTube how to take it apart and service it.

You lose that obsessive need to keep the boat from getting scratched. I struggled with this at first but now I realize it's inevitable. With a used boat you'll never have to go through that.

When I was shopping around last fall I found that Hobie had made several improvements to the boat I was looking at (Oasis) over the last 5 years or so.

So you might do some model-specific searching on if recent improvements have been made that might make a new boat last longer or preclude some problem down the road.

From what I've seen/read, I'd be wary of a Hobie Mirage that was 2010 or older.  Lots of problems with drive well cracking.  If it's a new-old-stock from a dealer I wouldn't be toooo[\i] worried as it would still have the Hobie warranty.

There are generally modest  incremental changes year to year.  Big improvements/ new hull designs like the 2010 oasis are less common.  I wouldn't sweat the small stuff but be aware of the big changes in the models you're looking at.  The only other advise I can give is be patient as the real deals are rare.
