I've been trying to figure out how to free up some space in my truck for a few big trips that I've got coming up this year. I thought about a carrier on top of the car but it's a pain to load and could add charges on ferries height restrictions. A trailer also came to mind but again, I'd most likely be charged double because of length. I came across the Hitch Haul today and thought it might be a good solution. I measured out the truck and added the Hitch Haul length and I'm still within the limit for the ferries. It could at least take a large fish cooler and maybe a few Rubbermaid tubs of gear. Also, since it's behind the car, it shouldn't create drag and maybe a little economical on gas compared to the other two.

Just wanted to see if anyone had tried these out and what they thought of them.
Thanks.

Z

I have one and it works pretty well.  I can't remeber if I you had a spare tire on the back of your rig or not; if you do it cuts down on how/what you can carry a little bit.  I actually use mine to haul my 8' livingston to the local lakes by putting it on end and strapping it down (its one hell of a sail, so only short distances.)  The size of the rack is also great for putting coolers, grills, gerry cans (water or gas), and anything else you can figure out how to strap on to it.  The best part is that it occupies the aerodynamic dead space behind your SUV and doesn't effect your mileage.

I think I picked mine up for ~$60 at Joes.

Nice, exactly what I was hoping to hear. I do have a spare that may get in the way but I can stash it in a spare well inside the car for more room. Thanks for the tip on Joe's.
