Back in the USA.  The trailer made it with flying colors. Nate lost his sun glasses, Craig spotted a Merbear, Langston evaded the Federales and Anthony is grateful that we all came back Montezuma's revenge free. All in all a successful trip!

Glad to hear it! I bet that was an awesome adventure! Once you're settled back into reality I hope to see some pics and hear some stories!

Lee was much closer.  Fortunately the one I saw was wearing trunks.

Excellent!  I'm sure the pics will be great.

So many questions to be answered soon.  What species?  What was the hot lure?  Did birthday boy return to shore with the same number of rods he left with?

It sounds like the trip is off to a great start.

My hot lure was Rusty the Spoon I bought about 30+ years ago. I had never caught fish with it before, but it was shiny and looked like a bait fish.  I heard the fishies in Baja like that kind of stuff. I probably caught close to 50 fish with it (nothing real big except some larger trigger fish).  It rusted daily as I was using it. Every morning, and throughout the day, I would scrape the rust off of Rusty with my bait knife.  I couldn't keep the fish off him.  They also liked my deep diving Cabela's brand walleye crank baits.

This time of year is actually the worst time to fish where we were at.  The Dorado were no longer there in any numbers to get excited about, and the Yellowtail were just showing up.  However, I knew this in advance and I made the best of it. I enjoyed fishing barefoot and with no drysuit in October.

I caught a couple smaller roosterfish (on Rusty) and about 9 other species.  After realizing the big fish were not around, I switched to my lightest gear and had an absolute blast catching the fish that were there.  At that point, I made a goal of trying to catch as many species as possible. My favorite on the light tackle were the ladyfish.  They would come flying out of the water about 6 feet in the air and spit your hook right back at you. The trigger fish were also fun to catch on light tackle and we kept a few one day and made Ceviche.  Yum! After awhile though, they just became annoying. I was trying to catch Pargo one day, and you couldn't get the bait down past those little bastards.

I have to go get my stuff from Wobbler now so it doesn't get rustier than it is, but here is my newly retired best friend Rusty.

Couple o' triggerfish (Bendo etc.).  They became the ceviche. They are also a bitch to clean.

More later to include Langston and my yellowtail and his Dorado.

Baja was awesome, good friends, good weather, good scenery and plenty of fish.  Like Craig said, the big fish did not cooperate so we fished for whatever we could find.  I ended up landing 15 different species inducing 10 new ones.  I was pretty bad about taking pictures but I got this nice one.

Be very, very careful. The MerBear unleashed may cause permanent scars to ones psyche.  I may have to claim PTSD.

Honestly, the trip was awesome. To be included in a group of such dedicated and talented fisherman was amazing. I learned so much just by watching and emulating. My species count topped out at thirteen. The Roosterfish was my favorite one to catch. Or was it the Ladyfish, it might of been the big triggers on a 6 to 15 weight rod. No, it was the Sierra. That's it! As you can see it was quite a trip!
