I'm really impressed that you were able to research the maps, fishing opportunities, salmon run timing, kayak rentals, and tides in Chile on the internet, apparently without any help from local salmon anglers.  And I'm really impressed that you were able to figure out the logistics of schlepping all your fishing and camping gear down to Patagonia (how, for example, did you persuade the airlines to let you take a camp stove in the airplane?).  And after all that preparation, I'm delighted that the weather cooperated sufficiently, and you scored big time with the fishing!  A great description of a great trip!

Thanks. There were a lot of unknowns for sure. We were fortunate that we were always able to stumble upon campgrounds or stores with the equipment we needed (it helped that my TMobile data plan works overseas for free!). As for the camping stuff we were able to find fuel for our camp stoves at the "Lider" the South American equivalent of WalMart. Camping is hugely popular in Chile so its really not that hard to find places to camp and camping equipment.

The fishery is akin to fishing at Buoy 10 in a Columbia River Gorge setting. The experiences I've had here really help to lead to our success down there. For example, B10 fishes best at slack high tides during relatively small tidal exchanges so I timed our 1.5 days kayak fishing for a period with high morning/evening tides and weak exchanges. Also the fishfinder really paid dividends in helping us locate structure and shelves as well marking where fish were. I can't wait to go back.

Thanks for the inspiring report of this great adventure. It's easy to forget that true adventure still lies out there, just waiting for someone to find it, when I'm fishing in crowded metro areas and their adjacent coastal shorelines.
