Getting my kayak next month with tax return.

Gonna be fishing for lm and sm bass, pike, trout, salmon.

Wife and I love salmon so probably mostly salmon. But I catch what I catch.

Need some pointers for the area. What baits or lures for the above fish. But until I get my kayak I'm still a bank fisher :(

If anyone ever wants a fishing partner let me know. I get Sun-Tues off.

Welcome to N. Idaho yak fishing.Very few of us in the CD'A area, I have only seen about three or four people fishing from kayaks in the last few years.

CD'A lake has some pretty good smallie  fishing, just wait until the water hits 55 degrees or more and they will move up shallow and become active.

The local cold water smallies are also excellent table fare.

To find them in CD'A just find rocky beaches. under water cliffs and drop-offs. Rocky points are good too as well as docks.

Just google up what works for lake smallies and you will get ioverloaded with tips. What works back east will work here.

Wanna catch pike? Just go bass fishing in CD'A lake or the chain lakes off the CD'A River, they will find you....lol

What model kayak are you thinking of getting?...warf

Be sure to check Elephant Boys and take a look at the Big Game II.  It's a good boat, and they usually get shipments in regularly with great prices.

I'm a newb to N. Idaho myself, but Warf showed me some of the ropes last summer.  I'm available on a pretty random schedule, so let me know if you are headed out!

I paddled and X factor earlier this year and really liked it.  Very stable with lots of storage.  I was even able to stand up in while in current on a river.  It would make a great bass fishing Yak, for sure.

You are on the right track testing boats. I can't speak for the vibe but Malibu boats are solid. Never the prettiest but they are tough and will get the job done nicely. I like a 14-16 foot boat for all purpose. If you don't intend on paddling long distance or camping a 12 foot boat is easier to deal with in small water and loading. 62lbs is heavy to lift on a large vehicle by yourself. I'm now lazy and use hullavators on my forester.

If you can paddle everything you are thinking of or at least an older model of it. I'm happy to let people paddle my trident but I live in Portland as do most of the guys here that let people play with their boats.

I stopped by Elephant Boys this afternoon.  No Big Game IIs in stock, but they did have one OK Prowler (trident).  I think they had it marked at $650.

Ok, so Kalph has ordered an X Factor, (congrats!) but what do the rest ride?

I ride a mango Hobie Revo 13, and a wood Petrel Play sit inside that I built.  I also have an inflatable advanced elements kayak and a 19' power boat!  I mostly fish out of the Hobie though.

McCoy, you should start a new thread on this so we're not hijacking Kalph's celebration.  I know there are more Hobies hiding in the Idaho waters than anyone knew!
