Barbed hooks allowed again on the Columbia

I'm curious, did anyone notice a difference in hook to land ratio between barbed vs barbless?  Minimal difference if any for me.  All mine were caught in bays or freshwater.  Do you saltwater salmon guys notice a difference?

I'd happily trade barbs for a gillnet suspension on the main stem Columbia.

I do notice a difference with barbless hooks in turbulent water/waves. The surging of waves/currents creates another variable for concern. I also find that fish in the ocean fight different than the rivers. These spastic ocean salmon change directions without rhyme or reason and often charge the boat, creating excessive slack even when you’re pedaling them out and keeping a nice bend in the rod.  I really like having a longer parabolic rod in the ocean to help keep those barbless hooks pinned to the fish. It increasingly presents a potential problem with 360 flashers and heavier lead because I’m fighting the resistance of the flasher. I can’t tell you how many springersI’ve seen the PBs lose this year alone because they get off the motor when fighting a fish, lose forward momentum, and fail to fight past the resistance of the 360 flasher.

Can we get rid of the gill nets already.

Yes, barb made a difference when I took my buddy out for kayak fishing.  Being newb, he took his sweet ass time landing his first king.  He set his rod in the rod holder, took out his iPhone to take pictures,  all while pissed off king is jumping/diving all over the place.

I just watched this scene unfold for almost 4 minutes before I intervened to land the fish.  Two hooks were firmly implanted and couldn’t set them free.  I forgot to bring a plier so I just cut the line.

Crumbs to get our mind off the real problems facing our runs.wouldnt surprise me to see the headline this fall, "barbs now optional but we are closing everything so have fun not using them".
