We're camping with extended family next weekend at Bay View State Park. I'm bringing the kayaks for everyone to play with, but I'm trying to decide whether to bring rods and crab pots. It doesn't look like a hotspot. Anyone had much luck launching there for crabs and/or salmon?

Was in the area this weekend without kayaks.  Just wanted to find a place for some dispersed camping.  We drove past Bay View SP and a few other parks on Saturday.  If number of trailers at the launches is any sign, it must be slow fishing.

The place was a bit smoky and cleared up some this morning.  We could finally see Mt. Baker from Batker Lake Rd.   Temps in the low to mid 80's Friday and Saturday, probably a little cooler today as it was damp but not rainy overnight.  No fly needed on the tent.  We left before noon.

First time I've been up there in the summer.  So this isn't much help as far as a fishing report.  I figure any information is better than none at all.

Have a good trip.  IMHO I'd always bring something to fish with when on the water in a kayak.

We camped at Bay View early in the summer.  I'd say don't bother trying to fish/crab.  It's just a big shallow mud flat with much exposed at low tide.  Unless you launch and retrieve at high tide, I'd say I'd not even bother with the kayaks, but we did see people out there on kayaks at sunset (May), which was pretty spectacular.  Here is a link to some pics I took.

There is a SP a semi-short drive north (Larrabee) that has a nice boat launch.  That  looked like a potential place for fishing/crabbing.  But, probably close to drive over to Deception Pass and fish/crab in Cornet Bay, which would be much better I'd think.  FWIW.

Thank you both for the info. We are camping at dash point later this month, so I'll probably leave the kayaks and gear at home.
