I was at the coast this weekend, so I stopped to check out fogarty Creek. The ocean was super flat and it looked like a super easy launch. I don't see it mentioned here a lot. Are folks still launching here much? I'm itching to try it out now when the stars align save I don't have to work when the conditions are good. Is there anything I should know launching there?

@clayman is the Yoda of that beach, but my 2 cents it is an awesome place to launch. Super easy in and out (no garage sales like PC some days). An extra 30 min each way for me so when the Coho are at PC I go there. Highly recommended!

It is a bit of a chore to get you boat to the water, but after that it is easy peasy and good fishing not to far off shore

The pull across the sand is the hard part.  Everything else seems pretty straightforward.  Traveling light is your friend here.  I have too much stuff.

Beach wheels.  F'ing beach wheels.  lol

I do think there is a place you can lock them up near the water, have not heard of any thefts, but beach wheels or a friend to help you carry/move the yak.

other than that, definite 4 of 5 stars rating.

I launch there all the time. Beach wheels are a huge help transporting your kayak from the parking lot to the water's edge. It's a great launch site when the swell is under 4 feet. If it's above that, waves will break across the reef at the mouth of the cove. Depoe Bay is a better option during bigger swells.

When you launch, hug the south edge of the rocks as you head west. If standing on the beach and facing the ocean, it's basically 11 o clock. That's where the main channel is. The waves will break over the shallow reef to the south, and you can actually hug pretty close to them and be safe. You don't want to angle too far to the north side of the cove, as the reef gradually shallows up on the north side, and depending on the swells, you never know where/when a swell can break on the north side of the cove. Keep heading west til you hit about 40 feet, then you're free to head north or south from there. Be cautious traveling close to shore in less than 30 feet, as there are some pinnacles that turn into wash rocks when heading north or south of the cove.

Once you're past 40 feet, the world's your oyster. Tons of reef to explore for bottomfishing, and tons of open water to troll for salmon. Be prepared for tourists to swarm you if you come back to the beach with fish  ::).

From the trail out of the parking lot looking straight out (West), there was a deep pool straight out with rocks to the left, and another pool to the left. Are you saying launch from the one straight out? That looked to be the better launch to me.

Yeah, the "main" cove straight out from the trail with the big rocks on the left.

Here's a pic of the beach at low tide yesterday morning. The low tide makes the channel easier to see. At high tide, the reef on the right is underwater. You don't want to be dilly-dallying on that side of the cove on a high tide, as waves can break over that reef at any time.

BTW, coho fishing was great out there yesterday at the 160' contour. Buddy and I waded through several wilds before scoring limits by 0930.
