Nice one on our fearless leader Pole² for getting into the Seattle Boat Show seminar for kayak fishing. Great to educate the many out there and share the madness in the NorWest.

Well, I gotta about an hour to cover kayak fishing.  Would like some brainstorming feedback as to what to cover.  Usually I just wing these things and rely on Q&A, but I think this will be a bigger forum and I'll need to be more structured.

short and sweet with time after for questions is what captures most folks at these things.

Maybe a brief history of our sport
pro's and con's of our sport ( fish extreme areas power boats can't etc...)
general safety with a yak (exit/entry, eqpt. etc..)
choosing a yak
rigging a yak
followed (or during) with a few shots of you enjoying the sport in your fine form!
and of course, NWKA Bling!!!
I would imagine a 30 minute presentation would generate the same time in questions afterward.

 I would love to attend one of these things but it is too far for me old bones to drive!
 How ever you do it Pole Pole, you will do it fine.

Kayak fishing, with Allen Sansano:

Kayak angling has been increasing in popularity across the country, said Seattle engineer Allen Sansano, but oddly lagging in the Pacific Northwest. That's starting to change, he said, and his online club, northwestkayakanglers.com, is helping spread the news.

"Anything you can catch in your bay boat I can catch in my kayak, with the exception of tuna, which are usually too long a paddle," said Sansano, sponsored by Ocean Kayaks of Ferndale.

He fishes salmon, lingcod and halibut in saltwater (much of it in Alaska and British Columbia), and for trout, perch and other species in freshwater.

He said a kayak is a lot faster than a pontoon craft or a belly boat, and is more stable than a canoe. It's great exercise, is very green, and a whole lot cheaper than a standard saltwater-capable fishing boat.

"An entry-level kayak would run about $800 new, and require maybe $200 or $300 of additional equipment," he said.

There's also the much more personal involvement in your sport, he said. "It's just you, by yourself, and when you catch a decent fish or add a new species, there's a terrific sense of self accomplishment."

allen, yes i am.. plan to be there either sun 27th or sat 2 feb.  will be my first show, tho i've lived up here goin on 6 years. [ defense contractor and very busy, only got to fish 2 days last year!!   ]

The fishing seminars include, for the first time, a how-to on catching fish from a kayak, led by Allen Sansano from the Ocean Kayak pro staff.

Still, one of the few seminars called out by name.

sorry allen, i didnt make it up there today.. i got side tracked by something else and never made it north past puyallup....the plan right now is to try to attend either the last seminar on wed. night. if i miss that one , well,  i'll just go in saturday and see what i can see .  sorry to have missed you

I got a seminar on Thursday at 6PM as well.

Had about 20 people each at the Saturday and Sunday seminars and more people stopping by to chat at the Scotty booth than I typically see at these types of event.  It's nice to be busy ...
