Title: Seward, 7/28
Post by: AKFishOn on July 26, 2018, 11:50:46 AM
Planning to hit the afternoon tide out of Seward (launching out of Miller's Landing/Lowell Point) on Saturday targeting silvers.  Marine forecast looks good but of course 80% chance of rain.  Anyone who wants to tag along is welcome.

Hey AK,

about what time is good to be there? I'm interested in going since I have never been. It might be a stretch for me to make it, but Ill give it the ol' college try!

Sorry for the late reply got hung up in Anchorage trying to find the gear that I wanted. I'm on my way down just passed Girdwood. Planning to be on the Water by 3. I'll miss part of the high tide but should have plenty of time to try to get into them.

This won't help for hooking up last Saturday, but here's some general info for Resurrection Bay.  In terms of float planning, tides are much less of a concern than they are in the Cook Inlet.  Resurrection Bay is a much smaller volume of water that has to go in and out with the tides, so they don't generate the strong currents that you get in the Inlet.  What Resurrection Bay does get is very strong southerly winds that tend to kick up in the afternoon.  Be mindful of them, and even if it's calm have a plan for where to go to get out of them if they come up.

I fished off a power boat *gasp* last week.  among 6 anglers using 4 rods, we managed 12 kings and 2 cohos inside the bay.  Trying to craft a plan to go for the kings off the kayak.  Percentage of white kings was a third and the captain told me the day before it was 40%.  I never seem to eat the cohos...I almost prefer bright pinks over the hatchery cohos.  But they sure are fun to catch.  The only problem is in saltwater, I hear the mortality rate is super high.  Now the big solid Kenai River second cohos are an entirely different fish...

Hey thats good info! Decided to go play with the chickens at Whiskey Gulch instead, but man Seward still sounds like a blast. It's like a buffet out there.

I might try dipping in the Kenai below Skilak this week or next week depending on weather and sockeye counts. It's 1 per day now in the lower, but the pinks and silvers are trickling in. Plus there are fat rainbows gobbling up bright flesh and some beads about now.
