Title: How big is a Avet LX 6/3?

I am looking to build a heavy setup and have been poking around the world of tuna reels.... wow. It is a completely different world!
What size reels do guys run out of their kayaks for a big meat stick? I will be running a Tekota 500 as my main bottom fish rig but would like to have something a little heavier for big but and ling.

Has anyone fished an Avet LX out of the yak? How big is this reel? Is it over kill? What other suggestions do you guys have?

Define "heavy setup".  I've been looking at the Avets for my heavy setup.  To me, that's a 50# rod and reel, with a reel capable of 15+ pounds of drag at strike.  I was considering getting a JX for this (just a tad smaller than the LX).

All that being said, I believe it is very difficult to put much more than 10#, maybe 12# of drag on a kayak.  That implies a 30-40 pound rig.  I run Avet SX's loaded with 250 yards of 30# spectra.  This leaves me room for ~50 yards of 30# mono if my application required it (blue water fishing).  For big butts and lings, I would consider this outfit to be appropriate off a kayak.

Heavy Setup - 200-350 yrds 65 spectra for bottom fish up to medium halibut (80 pounds), Large lingcod (50 pounds) over sized sturgeon - 7 foot plus.
Working large baits, live greenling - whole shad, plus 8-20 oz of lead. Heavy mono, steel or tuna cord leaders of 150+

I would be concerned about being able to get the leverage to break off the 65lb braided line if you get snagged up on bottom.

What line do others run for heavy bottom fish? I have been running 50 braid and I have no problem busting off snags.

You need to tie better knots.   >:D

I have a hard enough time breaking 30# braid from a boat, let alone a kayak.  I usually don't run anything larger than that off a kayak.

Just looked up the uni and will have to try it. I have always tied the Palomar ..

I sometimes use a Palomar.  Don't ask me when as there is no rhyme or reason.  It's supposed to be a good one for braid too.

I use 50# braid and it is a bitch to break which is why I use a leader and or a dropper.  If I'm using a sinker on a dropper, the dropper is way below 50#.  I've had to cut line a time or two.
