I've been trolling around checking out a lot of fly shops in the Seattle area and have found that each  really has their own character/specialties. I thought it was important to know each shop's strengths so continued to make the rounds. Do you have a favorite shop? Why?

My favs so far:
To hang out, talk story, and get advice: Pacific fly fishers
Fly selection: The Avid Angler
Bargains: Outdoor Emporium

Fly Fishers Pro Shop, Winthrop WA ;) http://www.methowfishing.com/

In the Seattle area, the Avid Angler and Creekside are the ones I stop at most frequently. Been to Pat's, on Eastlake a few times and picked up some atypical patterns. (I appreciate using something that looks a little bit different from what everybody else is throwing.) Haven't been to Pacific Fly Fishers- maybe I'll rectify that this coming weekend.

That shop looks so low key and low-tech it really makes me want to check it out. It's gotta be interesting.

FYI, for those of you who buy online, Albright Fly Fishing has announced it is going out of business. Think they had like a 6 year run in a very competitive business where margins are very thin.

Looked tonight and pretty much anything salt water related is sold out.

Pacific Fly Fishers and Gig Harbor Fly Shop are my saltwater go to shops. Never been in them but have ordered over the phone plenty of times and love the quick and friendly service. Plus they love to talk about lingcod and rockfish fly patterns.

There is a new fly shop in corvallis and I have been in it once and the owner is nice. The shop is called Watershed fly shop. It looks like it a has a good selection of tying material. The website is watershedflyshop.com.

They've donated stuff to ORC & Sunset Bay AOTD. They also have a lot of how to fly tying videos.

The Fly Fisher in Lacey, WA. Really small place, but Bjorn (the owner/operator) is awesome and incredibly knowledgeable! For a small operation he'll have what your looking for too!

I'm the new guy in the playground,  but I like Water's West over in Port Angeles. Granted it's pretty much the only true fly shop near me, but the owner is always willing to just hang out and talk shop, and the prices are reasonable. Also, the shop dog is pretty killer too.

surf12foot, thanks for the shout out. I hope you get the chance in the future to stop by Gig Harbor and say hi at some point.

If I lived in the North Puget Sound area (and didn't already own a fly shop), I'd go to Avid Angler. Exceptional staff. Ryan, Britta, etc. the whole crew is great.

In Oregon Caddis Fly is a great shop as is Fin and Fire.

But if you're also a kayak fisherman I think it's worth the drive to come to Gig Harbor to check us out. We sponsor NWKA. We're sponsoring the October derby by giving away a Werner paddle. We also are a Native Watercraft dealer and as of last week a new Hobie Cat dealer. We have a huge fly fishing selection and an awesome kayak program.

So swing by and say hi! Better yet, let's organize a kayak fly fishing outing in the saltwater for sea run cutthroat!
