I was thinking about trying to troll around the channel (gilbert boat launch) on 4/23 Friday, anyone else interested in joining?  I am not completely set on that area if someone would like to fish another area, just ready to get out and explore some new waters.  It will be my maiden voyage in the outback.

Great choice.  I've caught a lot of springers between the ramp and Coon Island.  Should be spinner Temps by then.  That's a long way out but I'll PM you if I decide to go.  Don't forget your Suavie's Island parking permit.

Anyone trying for springers next week during the week?
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

I’m planning on fishing tomorrow out of Fred’s Marina.
I caught my 3rd springer of the season last night, about an hour before sunset, right at the mouth of the channel.
I’ve actually killed salmon on back-to-back trips (Tue & Fri) out of Fred’s.
There are lots of powerboats working the area, and I haven’t seen a lot of nets going up, but I keep plugging away, and seem to eventually get lucky.
I spent 11 1/2 hours in the kayak on Tuesday, and 8 hours on Friday, so I’m definitely paying my dues.
Due to the unavailability of herring this year, I’ve switched to prawn shrimp spinners, trolled behind triangle flashers, as close to the bottom as I can manage without getting snagged.
I went with Spilt Milt’s spinner build, but opted for a sliding instead of a fixed front hook.
I’ve got all my fish this year on a 3.5 Mexican hat/gold spinner, with similar colored spacer beads, along with a Short Bus “Pole Dancer” (orange and gold) flasher.
Kind of a Mexican hat trick!

Great job adrift! That's good stuff. I'm two trips in, ~12 hours total, one smolt. I launched from Fred's for the first time this last week. Launching was fine, loading back up from that steep ramp was a pain. If I don't have my winch setup in my bed by the next time I go, I'm carting up.

I might be able to go Monday or Tuesday.

I had some family stuff come up, so I have not made it out this year yet.... hopefully soon!  I will be looking at the schedule and will post up for anyone that wants to join.

A few of us did about 12 miles on Friday, from Swan Island to the Channel and back (without even a bite).  I would like to go out again this coming week but not 12 miles (ouch).  I have my second Covid shot scheduled for Thursday though so I wont make any solid plans for this coming week.

I’m tentatively planning on launching from Fred’s sometime around mid-morning.
I tend to concentrate my efforts around the mouth of the channel, so I should be easy to find.
I’ll be in the camo PA14, with an American flag, and a fluorescent orange ball cap.

So Cally88, on his first day of springer fishing, on his first day kayak fishing ever, kills himself a springer.
Meanwhile, I’m on my 2nd consecutive skunk, (overall about 3/15 this year), and only saw/heard of one other salmon being caught by the power-boaters who were fishing the afternoon tide change.
While being genuinely happy for him, I think this calls for some serious hazing. 😜
Congrats Cally88!

Smitten, thanks adrift!!! Great to meet you and thanks for the beta on the area!  It was a great day!  Is this what it is like kayak fishing ;). Hope to find time soon to repeat.
