Hi all,

I recently outfitted my new McKay kayak crabber pots with non-lead sinking rope and wanted to report that I'm pretty darn happy with the outcome.  I ordered 100' of 5/16" diameter non-lead sinking line by KUFA Sports on Amazon and its working out very well.  Cost was $19 for the spool which is two pots worth for me.  I'd estimate that the line sinks about 3 inches per second, so it gets clear of your rudder pretty quickly.  Strands to not separate, coils nicely, is very limber, and is easy to untangle if that occurs.

Anything we can do to keep lead out of the environment is a positive in my mind, and especially so if performance isn't compromised.  Just wanted to share this with the group in case anyone else is looking for new crab pot rope.

I'm running the same non-lead sinking line on one of my traps and it worked fine.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve used the leaded line before, but I like this alternative, and just ordered one!

Last July 2020 on Amazon I bought three 600 ft spools of Continental Western Corp 1/4" lead line for $40.71 each and free shipping. Couldn't pass up a bargain like that for my one Tanner crab pot (600' line) and my shrimp pots (300' each).

Guys, thanks for this info. Wife needs new lines and rot cord for her pots. Since it looks like lead core line is soon to be a thing of the past, for good reason, might as well upgrade now.

Thanks for the info! I was going to order some lead core rope as I am almost out. But this stuff looks a lot easier to work with! Got a spool ordered.
