At the risk of exposing what a dufus I am when preparing to go fishing, I got all set up last night (so I thought). Bounced out of bed at 5:45a to head up to Austin Point for probably one of the last trips there before heading to the coast. Got the boat set up and in the water, ready to roll, started rigging up and "oops".  No lead :(

Not to be deterred. Back to the beach. Back to the truck and hunting for anything.  Ended up with two padlocks and a hitch pin. Tied 'em up and headed out. Seemed close to the 10oz I normally use so, what the hell. Pretty slow overall but managed to catch a small one. I almost turned around and went home. Not a great day, but dinner :)

Perseverance pays off.
Better results than my trip to the Siletz.
Launched at Chinook Bend.
Saw one caught 200 yard up stream from the launch.
I saw bobber & eggs, spinners, kwikfish, 360's and herring, and shortbush flashers and superbaits used.
Nothing else all day, though it was beautiful.
A bunch of Elk in the tent camping area at CB.

"Necessity is the mother of invention", maybe your padlock technique is a way to get around lockjaw fish syndrome?  ::)

That could be true on the padlock!  Even so, I think I am going to employ the “Tupperware full of lead in the truck at all times” strategy as it is the second time this year. First one, a dude spotted me a couple at the ramp in Nehalem.

Been there too. Just for those kinds of occasions, I keep short pieces of rebar to use as weight. So far, the fish don't seem to mind.

I love it! Way to persevere sir!
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?
