I was out of Fogarty yesterday.
My fishfinder was telling me the water was 62 degrees at the beach and it just got hotter the father out I went.
64.7 at one point.
Is if my fishfinder or did anyone else see warm water?

I looked at the buoy data for 11 miles out from Newport and the water temp spiked to 65 degrees out there.

How was the salmon bite? Any sharks?

No sharks, salmon bite was good.
Could not get any to stick.
As usual the wind came up about noon.
Looking at the PC web cam has me wanting to go.
My knee is telling me tomorrow.

The thermometer on my depthfinder no longer works, but the water felt warm, and the guy fishing next to me was reading low 60s as well. Yesterday's afternoon winds cooled it down to mid-50s today. Yet in a cruel twist, salmon fishing was significantly better yesterday than today.

I'll be going out at Depot tomorrow, but not for salmon.  Any word on lings and rocks?  Advice on where to target? My first time out of Depot.

At least for me and one other,  Bottom fishing around Depoe sucked today. Great whale watching tho! Two lings for me, both released, one may have been legal. Friend managed one rockfish.
There were big schools in front of the condos to the north,  in 40' of water, but just not biting. Normally drifting south from red buoy is good, but not today. You can probably do better at PC.
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Thanks for the info.  Will stick to Depot this trip.  Whales are a great bonus.  PC will be a first also in the future.  Was hoping to add salmon to the target this year, but with weather and my schedule making trips difficult this year, I'll just get water time and bottom fishing in.  What an amazing adventure to get into!  Greatful for all that are willing to share info and tips.  See you on the water sometime!

I have had a number of charter boats around Depoe Bay buzz by me. They obviously  don't like  kayaker. In this occasion they will probably say that kayak should have moved away from the hole. It never senses to amaze me how often they will do this out on the open ocean!

Went to PC yesterday. Started trolling past the rock and felt a bite which turned out to be a huge rock fish. Got a nice nook and a coho. Buddy got two coho. We both lost a few fish and had 3-4 bites that didn't stick. Then moved north for bottom fishing for a quick 20 min session before heading out. Got a Cabezon and a smaller Ling. Buddy got two huge lings (almost 40 inchers) within 5 minutes. Easy limits. Water temp was 59 degrees. Another kayaker that I know was close to a rock and hooked into a nice halibut. He wasn't prepared so couldn't land it. One of the easiest launches and landing. It was great to be on a water.

Made it to Depot for the first time yesterday and did pretty good.  My first Ling ever was 27".  Had something on also that with lite tackle I could barely get it off the bottom.  Tried for over ten minutes and then lost it.  Fun fight though.
