We are doing our annual family camping trip up here at Merwin and the fishing has been pretty dang good. I’ve been out twice, once in the morning and once in the evening. Both times I’ve been limited in a couple hours. Most Kokanee are in the 10-11” range with 3 of them being 13-13.5”. Hooked into a couple of the brooder rainbows and kept one that was 20” that we ate for dinner last night. It cut surprisingly well. Fish have come with 4oz of lead from 60-70’ and 3oz of lead from 80-90’, they seem to be deeper in the afternoon/evening when the lake traffic increases.

I was out last night on the kayak and plastic bracket on the right side of the seat completely cracked and I slumped down onto the support bar, hoping Hobie will warranty this as I purchased it in June 2020. Max capacity for the seat is 275lbs and usually I am right around there weight wise. Sounds like I need to pop by Next Adventure on the way home and have them start the warranty process. I was hoping I could just send a picture and not drive into Portland…anybody know of an easier way or is that the only way to start/submit a claim? Garmin fish finder is also acting up, water temp is reporting 82 degrees and the depth reading is fluctuating and I’m getting a lot of feedback on the traditional/clearvu screens. Hoping it’s just a connection issue somewhere. I already put dielectric grease on the connections to the head unit but that didn’t seem to fix anything.

You probably would of limited out sooner if you didn't have that banana on board...  ;D

For your fishfinder, it sounds like a connection issue.  Check the connections for any corrosion.  Also check where you spliced for the power connector to battery (not sure if that will cause feedback but its worth a shot).

Sounds like a great fishing/camping trip (minus the broken seat).

Seat is a bummer but luckily it’s still semi-usable, same with the fish finder. As long as my speed and waypoints work, I’ll be fine. Banana was the only ‘quick’ breakfast option I had without waking up the whole campsite digging through the coolers and snack buckets at 6:30am. Haha

Had exact same thing happen  with my Lowrance last couple trips. Scoured connections with a bit of thin braided wire, reconnected and disconnected transducer cable a few times, now back to normal. Easy fix.
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Does anyone  know how the whole bad luck banana thing started? Always been curious.  Used to go out out on party (charter) boats, out of San Diego,  with my dad, as a kid, for tuna, tail, etc.. There were several times crew or other anglers got seriously, and to my perception, unreasonably pissed, when someone on board busted out a banana. Would love to know the basis for this superstition!

I fished most of my almost half century life, most of it back east in the PA/OH area.  I never heard of the banana thing till moving here to the PNW... but I still don't ever bring a banana with me on my kayak now, just in case  ;)

Update on the seat, sounds like Hobie will warranty it. I popped into Next Adventure on the way home and they said I could have probably gotten away with just sending pictures to their NA email with proof of purchase/receipt. The seat still works but it’s not the most comfortable. Got another limit of Kokanee for a total of 30 in 3 trips out. Each time it was pretty much non stop action with multiple converted doubles. Tons of fun showing up the power boaters 😏. Didn’t take many pictures of the fish.

I found this on the shore a mile down from the ramp on Elk River a few years back. Obviously, someone took the banana thing quite seriously.
