I would like some advice on upgrading from my Wilderness Systems Radar 115. I spend the majority of my time trolling for trout and Kokanee but really want to get out into the sound this year, so something a little faster would be nice. I would also like to motorize it with as little effort as possible (minimal to no drilling). I already have a trailer, so weight/length are not really a concern.

Hobies have drop ins available and several other brands come with motors installed $$$$ you got to work with will be your limit. If monkeyfist sees this he has a nice ride. I have two older native propels and love them both but we still peddle.

rogerdodger recently had a series of posts titled "Adding AutoPilot to a small/light trolling motor." which described a reasonably priced gps setup that would work for multiple styles of kayaks that have the "powerpole" platform molded in. With Hobies, an easy mod to add a 24# thrust Watersnake motor that you can drop into the peddle well. Remember you are required to register the kayak as a motorized boat which in most states requires you to title the kayak.
I always suggest trying out a kayak before you commit. Many retailers hold events where you can try out their units prior to purchase. There are so many great brands of fishing kayaks out there.

I would recommend Oldtown PDL120, then buy a stand along trolling motor of your choice and look up in youtube how to install the motor. You now have a trolling motor plus a foot pedal kayak that you can take any where, stable and have both mean to travel. Never worry about something broke and cannot get back. The good thing about the Oldtwon PDL is you can lift the drive or trolling motor without align the prop, you will come to appreciate how good this design is when you need to lift the drive up fast when you need to. no other drive can do this that I know of.
