I'm over on the east side of the state and I'm thinking it would be fun to target northern pike. I have a handful of the premade wire leaders that have a swivel on one side and the clip on another. My concern is that these seem to be rather thick and a majority of the photos I see the pike aren't too huge. Should these be fine or would something else be better? Looking at getting knottable wire leader or perhaps a thicker fluorocarbon?

Having fished for northern for years in my youth, they are far from leader-shy. The only thing I'd be shy of is anything that reduced the freedom of bait movement. Activity means a meal for them. 6-8 inch wire leaders with a swivel and clip should be fine, I think you could use down rigger cable of that length, again, so long as it didn't detract from the nature action of the lure. We used dare-devil spoons but they will hit fake mice, frogs, squirrels or anything they can get their mouth around. (Remember that if you haven't let one go, a needle nose pliers is your friend as they have a hard mouth.) If I were fly fishing I might try a braided length for greater flexibility.

If you want thin kink-resistant leaders for pike, they do make titanium leaders just for that purpose. However, as you might guess, they are a bit more expensive.

You can buy stainless cable leader material and ferrules which you can use to make your own wire leaders, quickstrike rigs, and bait harnesses for use in pike fishing.

Thanks all, sounds like the consensus is to stick with metal leaders. I'll just stick to what I got for now. Idk the size or strength as they were in my grandpas tackle box I inherited. Used one with a spoon casting for muskie a couple years ago and action seemed fine.
