It's been what, about 3 months or so? Guess it's time for my quarterly "do something dumb so you don't have to"  :-\

Kayak was secured on the roof. Paddle was held by the Hobie bungee.
Got on the freeway to go home.
SLAM, SLAM, KERRR-RAK!
I looked in the rear view mirror and half a paddle is bouncing over to the side of the road and the other is sliding along behind me. Luckily there was no Mercedes tailgating me and both parts slide harmlessly to the side of the road.
Apparently the paddle caught some air, flexed and broke.
The paddle bungee is not made for highway speeds.
Moral of the story? Stow your paddle separately.

Actually, I forgot that it was there in my rush to get out to the mosquitoes.
I was very lucky in that it did not hit anyone or anything and that it was an inexpensive paddle. ::)

Wali you remind me of the kid in Boy Scout camp that we would send first on the trail walks to clear all the spider webs.   ;D

Thank you for the thankless job you have!   :icon_salut:

Ouch! That's as good as the air mattress yak cushion story!
