American Angler/ DouglasQuikut has confirmed that they are donating a Classic EFK to the Shootout next year. I chose one of these knives as a prize at this years event and really like it. Its solid construction and ergonomic design makes cleaning a mess of crappie a lot easier. I would really like to thank Tim for his support. Find their full line of products at www.douglasquikut.com

Stealth Quick Release Rod Holders will be sending some gear for the BCS II in 2017. I've been using their rod holders for still fishing as well as light tackle trolling with great results. They work great and are built solid. Thank you for the support Jason. Visit www.stealthrodholders.com to view their full line of products.
-
Bobs Jigs will providing some sample jigs again this year. Bob has moved back to Richland, OR so these jigs are very locally made. Just a few miles from the 2017 venue in fact. I used his jigs often last year with productive results. He is coming out with new skirt designs as well as offering his proven line. Browse and purchase these crappie killers at www.bobsjigs.com Thanks for the local support Bob. Hope you can come out and join the fun.
-
I-Tek/SKWOOSH confirmed that they will be sending a donation for the BCS ll. They make great gel seat cushions for many different activities. We had the chance to check out the Angler Gel Cushion at last years event and I really liked how it felt. They will definitely make a big improvement in comfort and extend your time on the water. Thanks for having our backs SKWOOSH. Check out www.skwoosh.com to view their full line of products.
Update: TWO Angler II Gel Cushions just arrived in the mail for the BCS II.
Thank you for the continued support Katie.
-
Dang! Jed is killing it again. The sponsors and prizes are going to be awesome. I can't wait.
-
Thanks Magic Mike. One of these may have your name on it.
IceMule will be sending the BCS II something this year. I could not be happier with my Medium Pro Catch cooler. It easily attaches to the kayak and holds ice all day. If you need extra storage, it can also be used as a dry bag when deflated. Thanks for the support James. www.icemulecooler.com has the soft cooler you are looking for.
Update: IceMule sent FOUR Medium Pro Catch Coolers.
-
EGO nets/Adventure Products will be donating gear for the BCSII again in 2017. I found out first hand how important a quality net is this summer when I borrowed a friends net to land my first lake trout. Sadly it was not an EGO and I never got a pic of that fish. EGO makes sturdy, innovative nets for all platforms and especially for kayak fishing. Plus they float! We appreciate the support Grant. Check out whats new in nets and other outdoor gear at www.egofishinggear.com and www.adventureproducts.com The Kryptek series looks pretty awesome.
Update: EGO sent an EGO S2 Slider and a Mini Gripper
-
You are really pulling out all the stops this year Jed, you are crushing it.
-
Thanks for the constant encouragement Anthony. What do you think of these.
The local sponsors are really coming through this year. Work Sharp/Darex will be donating a manual Guided Field Sharpener. This is the perfect tool for keeping in the rig or stowed in your kayak to keep knives sharp and in working order. Work Sharp/Darex is also sending their newest electric model. The Combo Knife Sharpener is an excellent choice to hone the edges of your favorite knives or bring older tools back to life. I have used their sharpeners for a while now and am impressed with the results. Thank you Taffy, the local support is awesome. Visit www.worksharptools.com to see other models and watch a video of the combo in action.
-
As I mentioned elsewhere, Work Sharp is awesome! I love what they can do to a fillet knife. Also, they can put such a surprisingly sharp edge on a $5 bait knife that only finger bone can stop it, and it takes 45 minutes of holding said finger over one's head while applying pressure to stop the bleeding. Good quality product. I have the scar to prove it. If you want a sharp knife, win this one, or buy one.
-
Never tried them. In the city there are a couple of great cutlery shops that employ old dudes with stones that come in a couple of days per week and take care of me when the steel won't bring the edge back. However, I'm getting to be an old dude, and they are going to die, so I better start learning how to treat my nice blades right.
-
Wait a minute, I just read Ginsu and Bubba Blade has a lifetime warranty. >:D
-
That's funny you mention Ginsu Anthony. They are part of the same company that American Angler belongs to. Douglas Quikut.
-
Grape Solar will be donating some awesome gear for the BCSII. We carry phones and radios for safety and cameras for submitting CPR entries for tournaments. Running out of power can cost you a picture of a life time or worse in the event of an emergency. Grape Solar makes Solar and Recharging units that are compact and portable, perfect for day outings or multi day trips. Best of all this company is based in Eugene, Oregon. Local support rocks. Thank you Sandy. See what Grape Solar offers at www.grapesolar.com
Update: Grape Solar sent 1 Go Charger 8 and 1 Slate Recharge Lithium battery They will come as a prize package

Those Bob's Jigs were the cats meow last year. I was just going through my box last week and putting together a list of what I needed for the season this year and that went on my "replace/refill" list.

Thanks Daniel happy to hear they worked for you. Bob is back in Richland and he may be opening a little shop there. I will try and get down to the Powder River arm and do some "scouting" and try out his new jig designs. Hope you can make it out this year.
-
I am happy to say that D&B supply will be donating a Mini Mag light to the BCSII this year. They are a great store that carries just about everything you need. Get a jump on Spring projects by walking in to one of their stores or visiting www.mydbsupply.com

Orion Safety has sent a Kayak/Paddle Sport Signal Kit for the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II. Being prepared is crucial to any sport but especially true for kayak fishing. Orion offers many products that aid in emergency situations on land or water. Visit www.orionsignals.com to find an addition to your emergency dry bag. Thanks for the support Bob.
-
Sawyer Products has sent an assortment for the BCSII. They produce a variety of products from sunscreen to personal water filters. The Sawyer water filters are perfect for multi day hiking/kayaking trips or to carry in your emergency dry bag along with their first aid kits. Their products are available at many sporting goods stores or at their website www.sawyer.com. Thank you Travis for the great donations.
-
Nitta Fishing Innovations will be participating with the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II again. These rigs are very versatile for rigging many types of dead baits. They are coming out with new lead designs and weight options that are proving deadly for pelagics from boats and especially from kayaks. They should work nicely for ocean salmon trolling. They also have a Live Zip that I will try out on lingcod this summer. Thanks for the support Gye. Visit www.nittafishing.com to find the rig that brings dead baits back to life.
-
Wheeleez has sent a Kayak Cart Beach to the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II. If you ever plan on carting your kayak over sand or any rough terrain, I suggest you consider a Wheeleez Beach Cart. Last year I experienced first hand how ineffective standard cart wheels are in soft sand. After struggling with my cart in the sand for a while, I looked over to see a fully rigged kayak literally floating past me. I already felt pretty useless but the worst part was that it was Mark that was strolling his way to the water. After some negotiations he agreed to come back for my kayak. Those carts are pretty amazing. Thank you Jessica for the great donation. Find ways to make your kayak trek much easier at www.wheeleez.com
-
Lancer jigs will again be donating prizes to the BCS. If you plan on doing any ocean fishing, I can personally vouch for their effectiveness. They are also rumored to be deadly in deep fresh water lakes. Thanks again Terry and Tony for the local NW support. Terry has added new colors to the line up this year as well as having extra bodies available for purchase. Get your orders in early by visiting www.lancerjigs.com
-
Sorry for flooding the posts guys, I'm not going to be able to post for a couple week and wanted to have the sponsors covered before then. Thanks.
-
MPOWERD/Luci has sent the BCS II 3 Inflatable Solar Lights. 2 clear and one frosted. We used these last year for camping and they were a pretty slick product. They are compact enough to fit in camping gear and even in an emergency bag for your kayak. They inflate and are solar powered. The ones we used at 2016 ORC lasted well into the night and was strong enough to illuminate a fair sized area for the neighbors that staggered into the camp site. Hanged 3 of them lighted the entire campsite. Thank you Joshua for the support. Find these and other great lighting ideas at www.mpowerd.com

Mack's Lures will be joining the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II this year. This local Northwest company has been offering innovative gear for over 40 years and we are stoked they have taken an interest in kayak fishing. I have been using Wedding Rings and Double Whammys to catch fish for years. They are deadly out of the package or you can customize to catch a variety of species. Thanks for the support Bob. www.mackslure.com has a huge selection of lures for anything you're after. It also contains great articles and helpful tips.
-
Vexan/Tackle Industries has sent the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II a sweet crappie rod to give away. It's rated at UL 7"2' 2-6LB but after playing with it a bit I would have no problem using this rod to go after bass as well. It's a one piece so the taper is nice with a solid backbone. However, the fast taper tip and neon green finish makes detecting the slightest crappie bites much easier. Thanks for the support James. See their full line of rods and baits at www.tackleindustries.com
-
NRS has sent a L/XL Chinook PFD for the BCS II. This is the exact PFD that I have been using for years and I have total confidence in its ability to keep me upright and afloat. The multiple pockets are perfect for keeping gear, phone, camera, and licences separated so I don't inadvertently drop anything while a pocket is open. The High Back feature makes leaning back in your seat comfortable. Thanks for the North Idaho support Mark. Their website www.nrs.com has a huge inventory of kayaking accessories for you to choose from.
-
Oregon Trail Garlic will be donating a few garlic sampler packs for the BCS II raffle. They are located in Eastern Oregon but will ship order to just about anywhere. They offer a good variety of different types of garlic from gourmet to bulk and even seasonal scapes. See what they offer at www.oregontrailgarlic.com Thank you OTG
This prize will come in the form of a gift certificate as garlic will not be dug until June/July. I will arrange shipment or personally deliver.
-
I'm happy to report that PRO-CURE will be sending a prize pack along with samples for the BCSII. The panfish magic worked, well magic, on crappie and perch last year. They make flavors for every species and it's always fun to mix scents to make a unique blend. My dry suit has a healthy coating of bloody tuna and sweet craw. Hit their website pro-cure.com to see whats new and purchase their scents at a sporting goods store near you. Thanks for the continued support Annette and Phil.
-
Big Hammer sent some crappie size swim baits for the BCSII. I love the diversity of these swim baits. I went from catching lingcod and cabezon one day to bass the next with the same baits. These smaller sizes should work great for pan fish and dropshot for bass. Thanks for hooking the guys up Pete.
-
Happy to say the local support continues. Bi-Mart is on board with the BCSII this year. Love the products and service at this employee owned local store. I have been buying fishing gear from Bi-Mart for a long time and I am always impressed with the variety of species they cover. Now if I could only be there when the .22 bricks show up. Find weekly ads at www.bimart.com and don't forget to check for your member number prizes on Tuesdays. Thank you for the donation, Susan.
Prize: $20 gift certificate
-
I'm stoked to announce that Hydro Kaddy (formerly Kayak Kaddy) will be donating a $200 prize voucher to the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II. While storage space on a kayak is limited, with a Hydro Kaddy you can take along more gear for extended kayak camping trips or extra gear for the day. I can think of more than a few ways that a Hydro Kaddy would be very useful on the water and I'm happy to have them on board this year. Thank you for the support Ryan. Visit www.kayakkaddy.com to shop and see how a Hydro Kaddy can improve your next kayaking adventure.
-
This is just getting ridiculous Jed. At this rate, everyone signed up is going to take home $500 in swag just for showing up.
You missed your professional calling.

No kidding, not that I'm complaining.

The Waters Edge RV Resort will be donating a voucher good for 5 weekdays at their Resort on Lake Cascade. This a beautiful lake located in the mountains of Idaho and is an awesome place to spend some time in the summer. There is a whole range of activities nearby including golfing, fishing, hiking and more. Summer is fun but Lake Cascade is really known locally for phenomenal ice fishing for perch. A 12 year old girl recently set a world record there with a 2.11 jumbo. See what they offer at www.watersedgervpark.com Thank you for the donation.
-
I just bought my first pair of Native sunglasses as a direct result of their support last year. :)
-
The Kayak Shed will be donating something for the BCS II again this year. Their gifty was fought over last year and I imagine anything they throw down will get some attention. The staff at the Hood River shop is always pleasant and really know their gear. They offer in shop help, on the water courses and even have online shopping. Thanks for the support John it is greatly appreciated. Visit www.kayakshed.com for all of your kayaking needs.
Don't forget to sign up for the Bonneville Bass Bonanza by May 29 this year. This is one of my favorite events and I am looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.
-
American Angler sent two Classic EFKs for the BCSII. I can fly through a cooler of crappie in no time with mine. They are well built and easy to use. American Angler has been on board from the beginning and was the very first positive response I received last year. Thanks for the continued support Tim. It is very much appreciated. Check out their knives and other products at www.douglasquikut.com.
-
The Boomerang Tool Company sent a box of assorted gear for the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II. The Snips are sharp enough to cut through braid and comes with a built in retractable cable. Perfect for keeping on your PFD yet out of the way. This new model also has an LED light for low light conditions. They also sent some Zinger/Nippers and retractable key rings. Thank you Ed for the donation. Find all of their handy tools at www.boomerangtool.com

Jed, awesome job on all the sponsors for the Brownlee Crappie Shootout! What do you say to these companies when you ask for donations? Are you cold calling their Customer relations departments or do you know people at these companies? It's really phenomenal the prizes you have amassed! Nice effort, man! You can wear that belt buckle around the house for a couple more weeks.
-
Thanks for the encouragement bb. No I don't know anyone at any of the companies except for EOI and NITTA, I just send out a LOT of proposals. Thankfully there are companies willing to support charitable events. No comment on the belt buckle thing ;D
-
Petzl has sent a few items for the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II. Petzl mainly produces rock climbing and caving gear and along the way have come out with a great line of headlights. I have been using these headlamps for many years and I am always impressed with their performance. New technology is making these lights more efficient while increasing lumens and improving over all quality. A dependable headlight is an indispensable tool and Petzl makes one of the best on the market. Thank you Jay for the awesome donation. Find great outdoor and safety gear at www.petzl.com Up for grabs are two Tikkina 150 headlamps and some first aid pouches.
-
I am stoked to say Cabelas has chosen to be represented at the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II again this year. I visit the Boise store whenever I can. They have everything I can think of and gear that I never knew I needed. You rock Erin! The support is appreciated and the prizes will benefit some great charities. Visit a store near you or shop online at www.cabelas.com
The donation consists of:
1 Cabelas Tripod stool. This a compact folding stool with a weight capacity of 225lbs. Haha, just made it.
1 Cabelas 30 can Cooler in blue. This is a great medium sized cooler with a rugged reinforced bottom
1 Cabelas Advanced Angler Bag. This is a perfect compact tackle bag that will fit nicely in you kayak while carrying a huge amount of tackle. It has space for 6 3650 tackle boxes and many extra external zippered storage compartments.
5 Cabelas caps in three colors. Only 1 black so you guys will have to fight over that one again.
-
Mack's Lure just sent a care package for the Brownlee Crappie Shootout II. I have used Mack's to catch a variety of fish over the years and will be using them soon to try and get my first Walleye. The slower presentations and jigging lures work perfectly from kayaks and I appreciate the company taking a bigger interest in our growing sport. Thank you Bob for the great donations. Find a lure for the species you are after at www.mackslure.com.

They make some great products. Those rock dancer jigs will work for steelhead, walleye, bass and I've even used them fishing in Florida to catch Grouper and Snapper.

So I wanted to do something special for the category winners this year. I started talking to a friend that paints crank baits and this is what he came up with. Fully functional commemorative cranks. This guys does some really awesome work. Thank you Jacob Danik for donating these sweet custom cranks. I really want one of these so you all are in trouble.
-
As if the spread of prizes and swag wasn't good enough already................
Holy Cow!
-
I'll donate a few YakNuts to the prize pool... For safety of course.
-
Thanks for the donation Brad. Between these and Mark's 100 jello shots, yeah, it should be fine. Maybe we should designate some one to hold the bail money. :D
-
Wow. Kayak Shed just threw down 3 - $100 gift certificates. If you are ever in the Gorge and are passing through Hood River, stop by this awesome shop. I do.
