Title: PC or Fogarty 4/30
Post by: bowen1911 on April 24, 2023, 10:05:37 AM
Saturday is looking decent, so I’m debating on driving over to PC or Fogarty. Anyone planning on heading out?

If the forecast holds you should have lots of company. I'm not sure if I'm heading to the coast or which day if I do (Friday vs. Saturday). But, I also don't really believe the forecast, so we'll see. Fingers crossed.

I’ve only done PC in the kayak, but I’m wanting to try a new area. A buddy boat always makes me feel a little better too

Might take a crab trap, but more than likely I’ll keep it simple.

If the forecast holds up there will be plenty of buddy boats at PC, DB and probably Fogarty.

I plan to be at PC Friday, if the forecast holds. Friday looking better than Saturday for wind and shore breakers.

I am with Raindog. Friday looks a ton better than Saturday. If I go, it will be Fogarty on Friday. 85 degrees and Springer fishing 20 minutes from home has some appeal as well. Game time decision.

I am most likely headed out Saturday as it works best with my schedule.

However, I dont agree that Friday looks better... Friday has a secondary swell of 4 ft at 5 seconds.  I will take 4 ft at 13 seconds with a calm secondary on Saturday.

The forecast keeps changing, which is normal for this time of year.

Now the secondary Friday is 1 @ 9 and the primary Saturday is 5 @ 12 with 4-6ft. surf at PC. That is doable for some folks, not a happy day for others.

Looks like I'll be fishing one of the central oregon lakes tomorrow.

Maybe next weather window will be better

I went out of PC today.  Fish were all just average size.  None got their picture taken.

The midday surf was a bit bigger than I had seen predicted.  Luckily it had short calm periods between sets that I was able to sneak back in

Went out of Depoe.  Nice class of rockfish, 18", lots of small lings,  lots of big swells.  My head is still going up and down.  Wind picked up in the Pm and made for a slow, wet ride back into the harbor.

Sounds like a guy who is hyper-focused on AOTY... I mean when you're current average is 224pts per fish you must have high standards!  ;D

I was at PC Friday. Hit the water about 8 am. Surf a bit bigger than I expected and got nailed right in the face getting past the breakers - now I'm awake. Slow paddle out to the buoy, 4-6 other kayaks on the water. Very slow start 8-10 am, small canary rockfish, baby ling, another ling foul hooked behind the pectoral fin - just under 22 in. Getting pretty discouraged and the ocean is getting more chaotic with multiple swells and refraction off the rock. Nothing in the fish bag except a lonely sea bass. About 11 o'clock and I mentally call it quits, hit the reel a turn, and bam - finally something substantial. Probably a cabezon I tell myself, and yes indeed - cabezon. But hope is renewed and I switch out my lure for the 4th time - 4 oz lead head with white forked-tail swim bait. In 5 minutes I have another big hit - this time a 32 inch ling. Saved my fishing day and made it all worth it. Had some anxiety about paddling back in. Jumped out of the kayak with a breaker behind me in chest deep water, grabbed the back of the kayak and got nice and wet but everything stayed upright - my go to re-entry technique but preferably in shallower water.

Thanks for the reports - it's good to know how it went for those of us who couldn't make it.
