I'm going to try for some springers in the Gulf Islands on Sunday morning. If anyone wants to join me, I'll be launching from Island View Beach in central Saanich and heading over to the west side of James Island. From what I've heard, the fish are keying on needlefish right on the bottom to 130 ft. Fishing in the tidal lee of James Island spit (west side of the island)  is the plan, jigging or trolling. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Good luck! Let us know how ya do. I'll probably be doing the same on this side of the border.

Good luck!  If schedule allowed I'd be out there.

I went out on Sunday to Island view Beach in Saanich--no springs for me, just one undersize halibut--5 lbs or so. Here's a pic looking east towards the San Juans--it was a beauty morning.

It was too flat to unfurl the sail so I jigged in depths anywhere from 20 ft to 90 ft. Just after launching I saw some some kids in a pb boat a 8-10 lb spring right close to the launch so I didn't bother peddling over to James. The fishing is starting to pick up off my place west of Victoria as some herring are moving in so I might try the local launch this coming weekend.
Cheers,
